Normally three weeks is when I begin to try to make determinations about sex. I see some incipient combs about to start, but nothing to differentiate color, which would tell us something. Combs that turn pink early, in that 3-4 week stage, are boys. Sometimes their combs turn a little later, but if they turn early, they're pretty much always boys. A pullet's comb will only turn pink when she gets close to laying. Mine that are now 18 days old are just starting to make me guess, a couple of them. Another 7-10 days will tell you a lot.

I have had good luck selling or giving away roosters on Craigslist. I don't ask questions of those who take them, but most seemed interested in at least trying the roosters out to see if they were nice, then only eating them if not. I think it helps to list them in the pets section of Craigslist instead of the Farm/Garden section, at least that's what has helped me.

What does a REALLY young roo sound like? I swear i hear something other than a chirp from that room. Kinda like a...frogs croak maybe? Could just be new house groans though...lol...or the raccoon living in the attic....

My roosters started crowing at around 9 weeks, and that was because they heard a lot of older roosters crowing all day. If yours have no other roosters to hear, they probably won't even attempt it for a very long time.

You can youtube that.... Its hilariously cute.... But keep in mind that baby chicks of all sexes will let out a chirrup or a trill when they're disturbed while sleeping.

Humor I hope. If not, trap it and get rid of it (illegal to move off your own property in many states) or it WILL get your chickens at some point. It is quite gruesome, they eat only the head, neck and crop, leaving the rest of the bird.

Not a lot to add as to the actual gender of your birds or the fact that your seller was, at best, not honest with you. You can sometimes tell gender early. I got 7 chicks from Meyer last April, sexed as pullets. Two were Barnevelders, here they are at 3 weeks.

Yup, the first one's a boy!

Nope, not kidding, raccoon (and probably babies) in attic. Just moved in, roof being redone so holes being closed up and trapper on the way to remove them! (A licensed trapper). BTW a raccoon overhead sounds like a full grown man running around, seriously! This must be the fattest raccoon on the planet. The area I'm in is between suburban and rural. Neighbor has chickens and says tons of predators- coyotes, red fox, hawks, and coons. So I will be using 1/2 inch hardware mesh for the entire coop including a top for the run!
