I sent a little box today, but yikes, I put hand sanitizer in there, and listed it on the custom paper, so I wonder now. Hadn't read about the alcohol content thing yet.
I'm getting more ideas of stuff to send, and also I did not know about the flat rate box, so will try that next time too!

Most likely the hand sanitizer will go through... If you sent it to Troy's, the chapel will put it in the storeroom for me to unpack. I will let you know....lol... Usually, the (stateside) post office lets stuff like that through.. Like I said, its more the post office here that won't let me pass it to the forward bases...
I just found this post. Since I am still not working I have plenty of time on my hands. I'm going to see if I can get a drive started for the things on the list. I'll keep you guys posted on how things are going with it. I wish I had the money right now so I could send stuff today. But I have a feeling that when I get the word out then I will be getting busy with the shipping aspects. Thanks for posting this thread with the info.
just saw this thread and i thought i would comment on it, my brother just got back from Irag about a month ago and we send him many packages and my parents church used him as a contact to send packages over there and he gave them to the person who distributes them, and the main thing he REALLY wanted was ziplock bags to keep sand out of his stuff...and for customs watch out for certain kinds of deodorant, and jerky with pork in it, they usually dont make a big fuss about it but, just in case. also if you put most liquids in a sealed plastic bag they will almost always make it through customs as long as they are in the original packaging. and i know from his responses that EVERYONE LOVES to get ANYTHING from the states over there.
Note: This program was initially disapproved due to ethics violations (gift guidelines) ..but since then, Sears has re-vamped it, and Uncle Sam has given the seal of approval.
This is a list compiled from various sources to help not just deployed personnel,. but their FAMILIES!!!
Thought I would post this info,.. as this forum reaches far and wide...
If you know of a military member who is deployed and you want to send packages here are some web sites where all these organizations do things at no cost for military members.
The link http://bluestarmoms.org/care.html is an excellent site and very well organized. Note that some of these organizations offer things to the families of members deployed as well.
