Soldier Gifts for Those In Iraq....AWESOME pics!!!!

Awesome Michigan!! Again, thank you to everyone helping!! I have posted the Troy's Place flyer all over my work and handed it out to many others. Seems the word has gotten around pretty well here on the forum...again, you are great folks here with kind and generous hearts..thank you so much!!!!

I just sent the list out to everyone on my email list...a few of my church ladies have already suggested we put a box in the back of the church to start collecting and then we can start shipping them out as they fill....Pam

Hi there...and THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

The beanie babies arrived today,... I unpacked the box myself, and put a few into Troys. (Some folks like to send them to their kids, others like it on their bed). The rest will be sent to the FOBs.... for troops outside the wire.

The beanie babies/stuffed toys were inside a white plastic bag...and box was marked attn: Athena

Thanks again,....so very much!!!

OK.. Just to give you an update... beanies babies are gone!!!!

I put some around the shelves at Troy's, just cause I know some folks like to decorate their rooms with them (as we have nothing else to decorate with),....but also, some folks put them on their pillows too......

Well, I went in today after church, and all beanie babies on the shelves and from the box.. all taken....

Doesn't take long, when we have 250+ people come in there day in and day out!!!!

Thank You so much again.............

Oh yes, Drew is gonna need a blanket, altho if he doesn't bring one, he will be issued one. (least in the Air Force, we get issued blankets/linens, if we need them! I had mine sent, so, I didn't need any of their linens..)

This place gets very cold..in fact, I have 2 blankets I had set from home on my bed here...

It still warms up during the day, but at night, its been getting chilly.

Bare in mind, alot is going to depend on where he is going.. and what he can take, store, etc.... Alot of Army and Marines stay outside the wire, and they are limited on what they bring with them.

Right now, its rainy season, (very YUCKY!!) and winter is fast approaching... by Christmas it was be winter like in the states.. Bagdad had snow on Christmas Day!

A site that I was a volunteer for during my sons tours in Iraq is

www.marineparents.com

the guys love getting decorations for all the holidays. The use them in the mess areas, rec rooms and their sleeping quarters. Homemade cookies and bake good and candy are an extra special treat. Use tins to ship them in, helps them not to get all broken up and stay fresh. Also use the flat rate boxes with the USPS. You can really pack a bunch in them and not worry about the weight for less than $10 shipping. Plus the boxes are free. Just do a general list for customs no need to list every item. Oh yea disposable cameras are always great!!!For cold weather those little hand warmer things that hunters use is a good care package item.

Im sorry Cass...

I just saw this post...

Yes, we have 2 TV rooms... and a dvd player... our old one broke, but one of my friends donated a brand new one to us!! Yeah!!!

So, yes, we do, the chapel has a dvd library, and folks just sign them out when they want to watch a movie.
