Soldiers addresses

Micki,
I love that you say "Army Mom and Proud of it"!!! I don't know your son but I'm proud of him too.

I don't like war. Who in their right mind likes war...no one I hope. But when it comes to people serving in the military, they are proud to be there. They signed up for it. They all knew they may go to war when joining the military.

Instead of getting into a heated discussion about who thinks we should be at war and who doesn't, let's just honor those serving OUR country and DYING for our freedom by not turning this thread into an argument. I just wanted to say that in advance, before the problem starts.
Wouldnt it be great if every troop serving could get a letter from a greatful citizen? I think that writting a letter is theleast people could do.

DANG STRAIGHT!!!

I will not post any thing if this goes into a heat debate either. I dont see how this thread could though. We are not discussing wether or not we should be at war. But we are trying to get letters sent out to some really awesome, selfless people. And I think no one can argue agianst that. And if by some bad luck some pops up and tries to start something just pretend that their post isnt even there.

Yeah that's basically what I was saying. War is a touchy subject and I've seen the way people blow up at each other on this forum about dog or snake discussions. This thread is about writing to the soldiers, which I'm planning on doing.
Like you said:

If we write to a soldier, it takes a regular stamp. Flat rate priority boxes work great to send "care packages". You can cram them full and it's just the flat rate.
The soldiers can send mail from Iraq without putting postage on the envelope.

Mickie: these are all nice people on this forum, but we certainly don't want to put our soldiers in any more harm. Be sure you don't post ANY info on what the soldiers do or where they might be going.

Anyone who writes: you can just write normal stuff like you might write to a friend. Just don't expect a letter in return. These soldiers are busy and have weird hours.
Personal experience, ya'll

I guess I should hav eleft it that you could email me for the addresses I now have all their first names. The letters will get htere either way but its nice to be personal. For some reason when you are in the military they call you by your last name no matter how close a friend. My son went into boot with his friend they joined in the buddy system He always called him by his first name here but now calls him by his last. Its funny but doesn't mean they don't care for one another. If you want their first names please email me and I will supply them I don't want this to become an argument eiither. Micki

I'll put in a plug for my unit. We are a C-130 squadron currently deployed to Southwest Asia. We fly troops, bullets, and beans throughout Iraq, Afghanistan, Southwest Asia and the Horn of Africa. You can address letters (or a box of cookies

) to:

Any Airman
746 EAS/C-130 Ops
APO AE 09309

It's been taking mail about a week to 10 days to get here lately.

I sent you an email.

edited to add: Proud Army Mom to 2 soldiers. Actually one soldier and a future soldier. On March 7, 2007 they were on their way to meet their recruiter to leave for basic training the next day. 15 minutes from home they were in a horrible car wreck that left my daughter with a broken leg and two fractures in her back. Corey had a concussion, they were lifelighted to Hermann Memorial in Houston, TX. Corey left for basic training a month later and is now home on convalescent leave with bilateral fractures to his tibia in both legs. He has to re-do basic all over. Chelsea will leave in late Nov. Her recruiters are trying to find us a free clinic that will treat her as the back doctor alone is 500.00 and the leg doctor is about the same. Now if this accident had happen with the recruiters all would have been taken care of. God had his angels with them that day. I couldn't believe it when I got the call. I told the lady she was wrong. We just sent them out and not 20 minutes later I got the call. Devastating in not the word. The boy got probation and joined the Navy (the Army recruiters didn't like him after what he had done to my kids. He wouldn't accept the blame. He thought he didn't do anything wrong. He was going 120 mph. He flipped the car over 4 1/2 times.) And the Navy is kicking him out. Chelsea remembers hitting the ground with her head. She is ok now but hates driving in small cars.

One question though, does it take more then 1 stamp? I would assume it does, so how much should I put on a card? Should I just take it to the post office?

Postage to any APO is just 41cents...1 stamp. Both my DB and BIL were in the Navy for 4 yrs and were in various places. BIL actually is now in Japan as a contractor and because he's working for the military (though no longer enlisted) he has an APO address and it's only 1 stamp to send him a letter. We sent him a finger painting my daughter made.
