I don't know if this is right or not I'm a newbie too but when my hands were around that age 6 to 8 months I guess a couple of mine laid two eggs a day for like a month not every day but you know pretty close could that be it just cuz they're youngWho Can Solve This Mystery?
The Plot: I have 8 hens, they're 7 mos old. Four RIR, 3 Barred Rock, 1 Delaware. Average is 7 eggs per day and they lay before noon. One occasionally prefers afternoon laying, and one doesn't lay every day. The 4 RIRs lay perfectly formed, large brown eggs. The 3 Barred Rocks lay light brown, medium, pointy eggs. Each night I check the nest boxes when I lock them up to make sure they're clean and fluffy. Last night? Empty as usual.
The Mystery: At 10 am this morning, there were 13 eggs in the same nest box. 13 brown, perfectly formed, lovely, large eggos.
(oh, +1 light brown, meduim, pointy egg laid in the bunkhouse just now)
Twelve hrs ago - all the nest boxes were empty. Zero eggos.
Now? *poof!* 14 eggos out of 8 hens.! Magic? Or are my hens really bad at math?
Worth knowing:
The neighbor down the road gets his eggs from me becasue his two old hens don't lay anymore. His hens have never walked the 1/2 mile to my yard.
My best guess: I have confused egg gremlins who donate eggs instead of stealing them. Or I have gremlins who lay eggs. Idk. Help.
