Well, last night we finally ate our first melon!!

So it was super sweet, sweeter than regular cantaloupe... like extra sugar was added.
And it had a slight crunchiness... not under-ripe crunchy... just delicious crunchy!

There's a few more outside that look ready to pick. There's also a few more that aren't even close to being ripe --and the weather's cooling down quite a bit. It shouldn't frost until mid-October so I'll leave them on the vine for long as possible.

So.... I've been researching how to save seeds properly and I hope they turn out viable so I can try this again next year. But apparently, melons are notorious cross-pollinators and if any of my melons have accidentally been pollinated by something different growing within a half mile of my house, then the seeds I harvest this year may produce something different next year. It's all very confusing, but I'm willing to experiment and see what happens.

I would love to share some seeds... even though they may not grow true, but I really don't know too many other people near me interested in gardening. If you want to convo me privately I can get your address and send you some. It could be a surprise for both of us!!

Awww thank you!! I never seem to snap the pictures when she's actually tidy and properly dressed. Like never!
