Some deer hunting help please!

How early are you going? We get to our stands 30 min prior to sunrise. The deer here are used to the "noise" from 4 wheelers and farm machinery and it does not bother them but I always walk. Maybe as you said, drive part way, walk the rest of the way?

If it is not an area you four wheel in usually, I would take it within 200 - 300 yds and walk in from there. Deer are sensitive to new sounds, scents (like the fuel and oil) and objects.

Good luck to you.

At this point, I'd be happy to just see one. I've been out four times so far and not seen hide nor hair. I don't quite understand. Any other time, we would see several every time we rode the ATV's, which was almost daily. Now that I want to hunt them, I can't find them any where. I've been preparing for months. I have an established food plot about 1/2 acre, 3 licks, and have been dumping corn and acorns by the butt load. I know they come and eat. Just not at shootin' time. Very discouraging. Good thing I'm a sore loser I guess. I woun't stop trying till I get what I'm after. Any tips???

I would stick to one area that you know they travel. I find that they use one run for a day or 2, then another.......etc........ I think that you just need to be consistant and they will make their rounds. Where i live we have a deer herd that does that. They live in the woods, but comeout at night into the fields all around them. The switch it up every night or two. So if you know that they are traveling where you are, try to relax and trust your scouting. Good luck

I usually park about 150 - 200 yards away. We ride out there alot so they're used to the sounds.

No worries, neither myself or my dad have seen anything this year.

It takes ALOT of patience.

I saw two this evening and had a clean shot , but they were small and I would really like my first deer to be a decent one. They actually may have been bigger than I thought because I was alot higher in the tree than I thought, and it was right about twilight when your eyes can be deceiving. The major difference in this hunt versus the previous 4..., You guessed it, I bit the bullet and walked all the way in. The walk in wasn't so bad actually. The walk back in the dark with no flashlight seemed a liitle longer and a little more tense. I feel better having at least saw a couple though. All advice is welcome. Thanks for the advice already given too.

I drive within about 300 yards or so of my stand but it is on a pasture road that gets regular use.
. It depends though on where the deer are moving to and from. You don't want to drive/park right in area that they would would using regualry like bedding, feeding, or travel corridors.
I have seen deer standing right next to my pickup when I went back to it and other times I have seen them turn inside out and run away as soon as they see a vehicle. It can depend on several things.
One thing is for sure, older bucks are much warier than younger ones and easier to spook.
Also be careful, I had a friend that was shooting at a buck he jumped on the way back to his ATV and just as he pulled the trigger he saw his four wheeler in his scope. He tried to stop but couldn't and put hole right through his cargo box that was mounted on the back. At least he didn't hit the gas tank. We gave him a hard time about that.
Hope to see a picture of a bug one on here soon!

Thanks. I'm heading out in just a few minutes to the spot where I saw a couple the other day. I'm going to go a little further in the woods the direction that they came from and maybe I will get them in better light. I will post when I get back to let you know how it went.

Good luck!!
