HI,

A few weeks ago, one of my Australopes died due to an attack from a cat. (Im not sure whos cat it was, it was in the middle of the night.)

All my chickens were locked up in the coop but I found out that the cat pulled the handle off so the door slid off. ( I fixed it)

How can I keep the cats out?

Im sure they keep coming back.

hi,

we've made our coop, Coop Knox...

No effort is too much to protect your chickens.
Have strong, double latch, ie a latch with some type of lock to keep it latched.

I have wire inside and out of the coop's window.

Our coop is 18" off the ground, with a solid floor.

Hope this helps.

Hugh

also,

cats hate water

if you can ambush it with a hose or some sort of trap

or get a hav-a-hart trap and contact the local gov't for assistance, in fact
call them ahead of time..

good luck

Are you sure it was a cat? I've never know a cat to tear there way into a coop or anyplace they know there is prey. Do you have other types of predators in the area that you could suspect?

Yea, it was a cat. We put saw dust around the coop and the foot prints match the cat.
and there are heaps of cats in my neighbourhood/

plus we're not allowed guuns in sydney.
