Some keets I hatched recently

In this pic you can see a couple of random dark feathers on her back.


The sun went down and I felt sorry for her, being really wet still, so she got to come in the house for a blow dry (which she liked cuz she was cold), and after she was warm/dry and my house completely smelled like a dirty wet bird

, I took a few more pics... lol


Looks like poop stains or grease smudges on her back, huh?

Wouldn't wash off tho!






Weird how just a few random feathers have some pigment

Here's a not so happy pic of her... (that's the "if you get any closer I'll peck your eye out right thru these bars!!!" look).


Anyway there she is... nothin' special, probably considered a major muttbird (flawed) by professional Guinea Fowl Breeders, but maybe she's something that will hatch out some Pinto keets for me.

Now you guys owe me some pics of your last hatches!!!! Cough em up!

Hey peeps, I've been so busy of late..... not even time to jump on here. WOW your bird is stunning GIMME!!! Oh what I would give for her, a foot perhaps LOL. I am jumping around with ants in my pants anxiously awaiting my 70 keets to hatch, It's taking forever, 3 days to go. I have hatched some more peafowl.... INCLUDING my first PIED ever..... excited to say the least, another egg from that lot died in shell, opened it up and it had 4 LEGS??? Very strange.

Hi bemba!!! Thanks, I like her too... had to keep her. Instead of the common black dot on the back of her head (like a lot of pure White keets have when they hatch) she had what looked like 2 dots, blurred together. And then as she feathered out the dark neck feathers started coming in, more and more. Will be interesting to see if she develops more dark feathers as she ages, or if she looses them. She's somewhere around 5 or 6 months now...and her eyes are still blue. I'm anxious about keets from her... I'd be thrilled if I hatched my own Pintos.

Oh wow, 3 days to go til hatch day... tic toc tic toc, lol. 70 keets!!!! All under broodies? I am getting anxious for my first hatch that's finally coming up in 2 wks. I have 21 eggs in one incubator, due to hatch on 2/8 and some more in another incubator due on 2/15. All these eggs came from the pen that "Ms Poopstain" is in. The fertility rate is still low in that pen tho. Not much better than 50% in batch one, batch two I'm going to candle in a few minutes. I will put another batch of eggs in by Monday I think. So much for only hatching a few, it's already started, dang hatch fever!

I am SO green with envy of your Pied Peachick, I want one!!! ...or five or ten. Congrats tho, post pics when you get a chance! And wowwww, a little Peachick with 4 legs, ack! Maybe one of those creepy giant lizards bred with your Peahen!

Yuckie ewwie tho, what an odd deformity to open an egg up and see!

Imagine if it had lived... creepy! But you'd probably be rich!

LOL thanks, she was way stinky tho. (At least now I know what a scalded Guineas will smell like when I'm home processing some birds... some day, when I finally grow a pair lol. At least I now have a name for her..."Ms Poopstain"!

LOL I had some strawberry suave that I got at the dollar store I thought about using, I was worried that I'd strip off all or too much of the natural oils from her feathers tho (So I tried to just wash off the poopy spots with just the hose, and not soak her all the way to the skin everywhere)

My house probably woulda smelled like poopy strawberries then if I had used the shampoo

We need a tutorial... "How to wash a Guinea"... (like that "How to wash a Cat" email that circulates a lot)

Something like... Flush toilet, then squirt a bunch of yummie smelling shampoo in, then quickly put the Guinea in the toilet, close the lid and sit on it. After the Guinea has churned up enough suds flush the toilet and wait a minute or 2 for the bird to calm down some. Then lift lid just enough to peak in and see how much of the bubbles are left, but be sure not to lift it enough that you end up losing an eye. If you get soap in your eye and the major stinkeye stare then repeat flush as needed, up to 4 more times... lmao

you can replace the oils in the rinse water.... I believe.

LOL too funny, a wet little Silkie looks like a ticked off drowned rat!

I don't normally wash my Guineas, Ms Poopstain was an exception, had to make sure i was really seeing spots, lol.

Love the pic of the wet silkie, looks evil haha, peeps, what colours are you expecting.... and are pintos pieds ina certain pattern? We are flooding here ATM and my poor guineas are hanging out in the big 5 bay shed with the peafowl, looking very miserable....... They come out when there is a break in the weather, then a slight sprinkle they run for the shed like it's acid!!! But on dusk when raining, straight up the trees, somhow they must feel safer in the trees even when pouring? My cinnamons go into the roofed chook shed though. I candled some eggs last night (wasn't gonna do the full 70 LOL) And alot of movement!! I'm thinking tomorrow they will break the membrane, then chipping won't be far!!! I have not been so anxious for a hatch in quite some time (excluding the peafowl) I am really hoping for at least one silver pied (red eyed) keet. But Any colour heavy pied I will be very happy with.
