The guy in question is a black sexlink cockerel, that I THOUGHT was the result of my RIR roo (hatchery from TSC) and a Cuckoo Marans pullet (hatchery I think, got her from a friend)

The mama I have recently noticed has started changing earlobe color, red with white in the middle. Pictures of her earlobes are here https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=452308.
This
is her as a teenager:

This guy has one big white earlobe and the other side is practically non-existent, but seems reddish. Also see how his comb sticks out backwards over his head, my other BSL boys don't do that. And his tail set is funny.

At the time I also had a brown Leghorn rooster that was never penned with the girls, BUT my cuckoo ladies did get out once. Hmmmm do you think his dad is the Leghorn instead? He still got greyish legs from the Cuckoo side.

Or does it seem like my Cuckoo girl has some mysterious breeding??

This is weird. I have no idea about the Leghorn possibility. I got a roo like that once from a Houdini of a Seabright Roo who liked the big girls. You don't have an sneaky Seabrights do you?

The options for roos were:
Black Copper Marans (and he would have gotten feathered legs from him, so that's out)
Brown Leghorn (which is looking like a good possibility)
big buff EE roo (no EE in him that I can see)
the RIR that was SUPPOSED to be the dad
and a Dominique (totally wrong comb)

I'm thinking the Leghorn got lucky
