Had a couple of people shot in our county a few years ago. They were driving around this guys place around 2am with the headlights off.
Everyone felt sorry for them being "lost", but it turned out they were driving around people places and stealing from them.
Shooter was never prosecuted.
They survived.

We've had that happen a couple times. Someone would drive around and toss out roosters or chickens

They figured if you have chickens, you may want more?

I have several neighbors dogs you may use as the payback. DH doesn't get why I fly off the handle when I have to clean up ginourmous dog poops out of my kitchen herb garden, or around my coop, or off my back step.

I would be proud to be known as the "mostly harmless old woman, but don't mess with her critters"!

I have to say they were pretty lucky. Had this happened at my house the 410 I keep loaded in my bedroom may have been discharged.
