I decided this week to upgrade my DishNet to HD so contacted the company via their chat line to set it up. Unfortunately I got someone whose first language wasn't English. She was only able to answer me using their canned chat messages which was fine until the final phase, installation. The conversation when something like this:
Her: "Our technician will be at your home between 8 and 12 on Friday."
Me: "What will he have to do?"
Her: "He will install the new receiver and upgrade your dish."
Me: "But my dish is on the roof and the roof has 2 feet of snow on it."
Her: "No problem the technician will take care of the dish."
Me: "How, he can't get up on the roof?"
Them "He will take care of it."
Me. "Does he have ice crampons or a hovercraft?"
At this point the person I was chatting with turned me over to someone else who read through the chat before answering me.
New guy:"Then this week would not be good for you?"
Me "It'll be fine for me but there is 2 feet of snow on the roof and we're expect another foot tonight." (We lucked out with 2 inches the weatherman was wrong.)
New guy: "When will it be ok for you to have the work done? He will have to change the dish."
Me. "I have no idea, the long-range forecast is for highs in the 20's. That means the snow isn't going to melt any time soon."
New guy "OK we'll have him come next Friday."
What do you want to bet I'm going to go through this same conversation next Thursday when I contact him about the 3 feet of snow on the roof?
