Generally when I special order anything (from ANY store), they call me when it comes in, and from the beginning I know how long they will hold it. Having to special order shavings seems odd, unless the OP wanted something unusual; most feed stores carry shavings, usually several different types.
I got 49 cronish cross this spring because people ordered them, but would not pick them up.
They expected the feed store to feed and water them til they were ready to get them. Store employees told me that they had called these people several times. No one showed up.
They ended up with over 50 top hat chicks.
Now if OP was calling and showing up and asking about their order and made an effort to get it then they are not at fault. It is the guy that sold it to someone else.
Go elsewhere unless you have no choice.
what difference should it make to the ranch what you are doing with it or how much if it you have or dont have. They should have not even listened to anyone, if you choose to buy it and dump it in the lake why should it matter to them???
I've never heard such, I would not use them again that's for sure. Is there is shortage in your area? They should order enough to provide everyone with adequate feed. Alot of people keep extra feed, I personally keep at least 2 extra bags. Unless it's on sale then I stock pile.
People............................ Sometimes I wonder what's it's coming to. Gladly except your help, and then put a knife in your back. There are people that are TRUE out there, you just need to look for new friends.

it used to be that all farm supplies could be bought at the country store, but several years ago the country store was bought out and the owner no longer wanted to carry farm supplies and turned the store into a high end clothing store. The ranch was pretty much faced with the decision of having to go out of town to buy feed for their animals and the town got a lot of complaints and suggestions that a feed store should be opened in town. in the end the ranch owners took the contract over and turned the ranch into a feed store as well. they would be able to get their feed and sell feed to the towns people and make money in the process. So yes it is a ranch, and a feed store.
I stopped reading here. EMA - sounds like he doesn't have room to store more feed and doesn't know how to deal with the growth. He's got a problem and needs to expand with a second site. YOUR BARN, actually. Partner with the guy and have deliveries made to both places. His and yours.
Work together to turn this problem (opportunity) for the area into a solution. You are in freezing, ice and snow country. Everyone there needs to stockpile a little and he can't get enough feed in and store it for everyone. He needs another Barn - Yours is handy for your area, his for his area.
I have a feeling you will then find out he is not charging much over cost to make it worth raising another building for storage. That would appear to be his only other option and he doesn't want to do that. But if you guys get a 2 week blizzard, you are all in trouble and he knows it, if the trucks can't get in for a month. Been there, lived through that and I bet so has he and he's worried.
I would not partner with anyone that does business like that guy or have the liability, aggravation or the expense of having his customers on my property.
