ok to clarify somethings, the pine shavings are special order because they come straight out of his sawmill in the back, if a customer wants one or two bags they usually have that, but because he had a bunch of people buy all the bags I pre-order 5 bags to start my deep litter method, I explained this to him, told him using straw is causing my coop to stink and needed the shavings to switch over, I also have small animals in big cages that need shavings.
Oyster shell he doesn't stock, its special order only, and anything special order with him you have to put in a deposit. My so called friend didn't know what oyster shell was, stupid me I told her I pre-ordered it and she asked what it was and what people do with it, so I told her. Originally he told me it would be in the following week, I went in the day specified and I barely even got out of my vehicle when I saw him walking towards me, he told me he didn't have the items I had requested and would be in the following week. I then inquired about feed and he said he didn't have that either. he didn't give an explanation about this. But I will tell you on my way to the ranch I saw my so called friend pass by me on the highway and the back of her truck was open, in my rear view mirror I saw bags of shavings and the white sacks of feed.
the lady down the street also informed me that week she had purchased feed from the ranch the afternoon I was there. she has a lot of chickens and so she bought 6 bags.
this went on for three weeks, his feed barn is huge by the way, half of it is farm animal feed, half is hay/straw. Each time I went I didn't get past a certain point before he came out to meet me. Usually we have to go into the feed barn to get him and tell him what we want, this is why I was beginning to think something wasn't right.
and it was only on my last trip there that I finally mustered up the courage to ask him what was going on, because it just didn't sound right. He gets one transport in on Wednesdays, and its full of skids of feed.
bottom line is I have no clue what is up with the way things went. I haven't done anything to tick anyone off and I was only purchasing from there only, never had a bad thing to say about them or the ranch. I was nice enough to stop at the coffee shop and buy them coffee and sometimes timbits as a snack.
this town is very into clicks, either you are in or you are out. At this point, its been decided and the book has been closed on this ranch and the ex friend. we will no longer purchase from them. and will not longer be speaking with the ex friend. I told the ranch they do not have to worry about me bad mouthing them to the towns people, and that I simply couldn't look past what happened and that I rather go out of town and get what I want when I want then be treated like a second rate customer.
maybe in time I might find out more on what went on, as I have a good friend who works in the stables there, She has already talked to me about this and said they have been acting kind of weird the last few weeks. Maybe the issue doesn't lie with me but internally with them. However this does not change the way they made me feel or how they treated me.
when I want to expand my flock I am sure there are some BYC members in Ontario that will have some beautiful chicks for sale. or I will get them straight from the hatchery.
