. And they were driving an Escalade! After that I grilled people like a rib on a BBQ at Easter time about the care and long term commitment of owning poultry or waterfowl. It's sad how many wind up dead or just not wanted because it's the Thing to do for your kid's.Hand's out The Gold Bond Powder to Everyone that has to deal with these people.Chap's Me ****. Hubby had a customer once her son was buying duckling's and he was picking them out from pen hubby tried to get her to hold one OMG she went screaming GET THAT NASTY THING AWAY FROM ME.What Loser's.

I never would have known if I hadn't read these posts

My family lives in another state. I am a bit different then they are. I am not the city girl they have always wanted or expected me to be

When I mention I have a new animal I get "That's nice" and they try to move on to a different topic. I know a lot of people but I wouldn't call them friends. They don't have much interest in animals or making things
hit.gif
So, I do my own thing and my husband joins when he can

When my dad visited last time he was more interested in the animals then ever before
thumbsup.gif
I think he realized that they really do make me happy
ya.gif
He said I should becareful that I will end up like a strange cat lady or a hermit. I told him that was fine with me. I explained that animals are nicer then people so why should I spend time with people that will annoy me? Even my kids are jealous

They don't even live with me anymore!!!
barnie.gif
I think he understood my point

I think he told my mom and now she even shows an interest

She is definitely NOT an animal person.......... LOL........ so, I have to give her credit for trying.

Of course, I am the BOMB when it comes to being the Awesome Auntie!!!

It's a pleasure to meet all of you weird animal lovers! I mean that in the kindest way, of course.

I wonder if some people's aversion has something to do with how they were raised. If their parents were poor and had chickens and were made fun of they might have a deep seated negative feeling. My MIL's mom was known about town as the chicken @#!% lady because she sold poo for fuel during hard times. Needless to say my MIL is NOT infatuated with my beautiful hens.

I feel bad for people who can't enjoy the wonder of animals! They are so enjoyable and fun and interesting. I can understand that people all have different interests, but these are the other living things we share the world with, you know? How can you not be interested in them!? I would be happy to listen to you talk about your ducks for as long as you wanted (so long as I can talk about my ducks, too!
lol.png
). I had some nice long poultry conversations today, and boy is it fun talking to people who genuinely care about what you're saying when you're talking poultry. It's a great feeling of "Yes! Somebody understands!" If someone obviously isn't interested I'll change the subject, but sadly. I have tons of great animal stories, so they're missing out.

I'm glad a lot of my wildlife rehabber friends are also poultry people so I can have these great conversations. My friends my age know how much I love my birds and they'll tolerate talking about them for a while, but they're not exactly into it, either.

Sad Sad Sad. Even my DH who will tell you "Those are my wife's chickens and ducks", has a favorite chicken....it is "his girl" and she chases after him like a love sick puppy. And he sits and watches the ducks playing in their pool and he holds them when they are babies.

It is sad when a human cannot find a moment of peace and serenity or joy from watching animals for a few moments. I feel sorry for folks like that, they are missing a whole wonderful experience in their world.

i agree as well. i mean why should we care what those spoiled people who make WAY too much money (in my opinion) are doing. all they do is adopt kids to have someone else raise them, get DUIs even though they can like call a taxi or limo, divorce who they decided to marry the day before, and other selfish CRAP.

I believe it's the fact that animals aren't fast enough, they have a scent, they make strange noises, you can't command them......... In other words, they aren't a phone, they aren't a computer, tv, what they call "music" today, play station, Wii, and what ever else that runs on power and communicates the gossip of the day to them, or has anything to do about money.

People won't slow down and enjoy what life brings them. They have to keep up with gadgets. It's very sad. If they only knew what they are missing. I'm lucky to have nieces and nephews to "brainwash"......... roflol. I get to tell them stories since they don't live near me. I send them pictures. When they do visit all they want to do is be with the animals that I have and even work on the "farm." Gotta love it!!! I don't really have a farm but it seems like it to these kids. I have 1 QH, 1 mini, a bunch of chickens, 6 runner ducks and 3 dogs. The kids think it's very cool. Shoot, there are at least 9 neices and nephews under the age of 9. When they visit they can't wait to come back. It's a good start at a young age. They will always remember there Auntie

When we went to the zoo a few weeks ago, we looked at all the exotic animals.... Then we went to the children's zoo and watched the ducks for like an hour! lol... they were all domestic breeds, all I've seen before... Finally I was like, "Well you know we could do this at home...." lol... but we continued to watch the ducks for like another half hour....
