Some people...

The sad truth is, that boys hatch from 50% of all eggs on average but only about 10% of all boys are needed or wanted. After the experience I had giving my last rooster away I have come to the firm decision that from here out, I will personally dispatch a rooster before giving it away to anyone I don't know. That boy was abused but I won't say what happened.
All I know is, if I do it myself I'll know that he was never abused or mistreated and "went" in a peaceful, humane way.
I hear you. When I had my goat dairy I got so I refused to sell any buck kids for pets. Except for a very few that went for pack goats, they all went for meat. With rare exceptions, pet goats have a miserable life.

I know this one person who owns chickens, and it is her job to collect eggs. She complained that she didn't like the feeling of a warm egg in her hand. I , myself, don't mind the feeling.

She might need to think about doing something else, I love the soft, warm feeling of a warm egg in my hand. It is especially wonderful when they still have a little bloom left on them.

I have sort of become a chicken rescue in my community. A lot of people I know want chickens but can't keep them, mostly because of predators. Part of the reason I ended up with so many roos.

We all have our little quirks. Because I had to dissect so many fertile chicken eggs in college, the thought of eating one gives me the willies. So, I don't have roosters. I'm sure I've eaten a few fertile eggs when buying them from local farms, but as long as I don't know about it or see chicken parts when I crack open an egg, I'm ok. I know people who won't eat veal because of the source. My 2 adult kids are foodies and will eat ANYTHING. So, because I don't like Sushi and refused to eat seared but raw to the bone duck, my daughter calls me a "picky eater".

Oh well. That's what keeps us from being identical. How boring!!
