Some Raven Took away a 9 week old Chicken

I'm still trying to figure out if they can actually carry prey away in their feet like a raptor, or if they have to kill and eat on site. Can't find the answer to that on line. I don't think they have talons like hawks, I think their feet are flat like a chicken's. They can still reportedly kill a calf or lamb though. I am not going to describe how. :sick

Yes, it carried it away in its mouth and they can pick things up. I’ve actually seen them do it. It’s crazy. Thank you all for your advice, I’ll look into the repeller. I can use the noise but would probably make my 2 neighbors pretty mad..... also, I really dont feel like shooting off a shotgun every time I see one or Buying a Air-Horn. But anyway thanks for your advice. I can almost not believe they have killed calf’s and fawns and lambs. Do you think they could bother my adult chickens. Yesterday my rooster who is very protective of the chickens, (He tries to attack me every day!) was hiding under a bush. He’s definitely a goner! Do you think they would Attack my quail in a pen or my adult ducks and chickens, or my 3.5 month old chickens? When do you think it’s going to be safe to put th out with the big birds. Today I saw 7 Ravens flying overhead. And it’s supposed a huge fine if you shoot one. I’ll definitely consider the visual repeller.

I have had some smaller sex links killed by them too, but not as often as smaller birds. I would expect that they could prey on your quail as well. And even small ducks most likely. Anything small and vulnerable. If your quail sleep against wire exposed to the ouside, I would try and make it so that they don't do that.

The quail pen is hardware cloth. Do you think I should try to maybe board up the sides.
I imagine they are pretty safe behind hardware cloth, but maybe? I don't have any experience with quail, but I think it would be hard for a raven to get it's beak very far into 1/2" hardware cloth.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Als, it’s 1/4 inch, so even better. I’ll keep an eye out on my chickens though. I might have to get a Asil rooster or one of those repellers or something.

If your not sure if your looking at a crow or a raven, look at it's beak. Definitely different, ravens beaks are a lot bigger and shaped a certain way. That's what I noticed.
