We really need a category to self-diagnose those of us that keep chickens as companions. I suspect the number of us that would label ourselves as obsessive is HUGE. I am a dog person. I love horses. I live with my 3 kids, 2 dogs and 4 cats. Because there are ponds on this farm. I picked up 5 flying Mallards and 4 Pekins with thoughts of them living in a doghouse on the island in front of my home. The igloo doghouse, now camoflauged, is easy to clean. It seemed a perfect idea.
Then, it happened. Someone at work saw the pictures of my ducky darlings, and asked me to bring her some. She also asked for 2 chickens. I knew better than to look at those adorable fuzz balls when I picked up my ducklings at the feed store. Now, I had no choice but to look them all over and select 2 to take with me to work.
That evening, I returned to the feed store, planning to grab the 4 last Pekins and 2 chicks (to make minimum purchase of 6). The ducks were gone, so Six Chicks it is. Now, my laptop screensaver is the Six Chicks. They all have names. I can't leave BYC alone. I have to see EVERY chicken coop ever made as I plan to perhaps one day build one myself.
I realize I am an obsessive freak... but chickens????? How can anyone be obsessed with Chickens???!!!!?

I am a bit concerned about chicken math. The Feed Store said the chicks are sexed - 90% should be hens.
They already have names:
The Rhode Island Reds are Penny and Prudy; the Buff Orpingtons are Buffy and Bonnie; the Barred Rocks are Barbie and Roxie. Roxie is more advanced than the others - really smart for a weekling.
Now that they all have girlie names, what are the chances there could be a coxcombe among them?
