Someone explain pathological liars to me...

I have a SIL like that. She is so wacked out she just signed custody of her son over to me and her brother. She has 4 kids, all has been raised by someone else. You know how we can tell when she is lying??? Her lips are moving! She is a freak!

sounds like the kids are better off with someone else anyway, so I guess it's good that she's crazy enough to sign over custody - better for the kids if she is a lost cause. I think we all have a few of these in our own families. I have all kinds of stories. It's so hard when they're family because you really don't just want to write them off but that's usually the best thing for everyone involved.

I'm not sure if he fits the compulsive or pathalogical description better... He usually lies after the fact, not really to get his way but more to make himself seem like the hapless victim.

He's the classic guy who would say he was just standing on the corner minding his own business and all these things just happened to him through no fault of his own.

His mom was horrible, and I am sure alot of his basic bad behavior comes from childhood trauma. His mom tried to avoid gaining weight during her pregnancies by smoking lots of cigarettes and drinking coffee. I think those kids were brain damaged in the womb, and then further damaged from their environment growing up.

It's not an excuse for their behavior, just an observation.

I have to work with the "That's nothing, My (fill in the blank) will do (fill in the blank) better than that!" guy.

It's soo annoying The sad part is because I have 1000 hobies I'll overhear someone talking about something I do too and I catch myself saying that and I want to dig out my eyes with a pitchfork.
I try recover with "Wow, that's way too cool. Maybe you could give me a few pointers?" as I get my foot out of my mouth.

It's fun to mess with him though. Somedays I'll tell the other guys in the office I'm going to start talking about how I bought a brand new 12GA shotgun that holds 12 rounds plus 1 in the chamber. Everybody knows I didn't but then this guy will perk up with "You did too? Mine is Nickle plated with diamonds on the trigger..." When he bites I reel him in with "one ups" until it just gets too funny. Then I'm like "Bring it in tomorrow, we can get a picture together" and watch him sputter to explain why he can't bring it in....Does this make me a mean person? Maybe, but still fun.

I have an X like that also..to this day he cant understand what went wrong..the thing is HE BELIEVES what he is saying..thats what makes him such a good lier..and I know where he got it...from his mom,she is just like him..

It is one of my biggest pet peeves,...liars. My SIL has been this way since I met her about 30 some odd years ago(we were only 6 yrs old). I just can't comprehend why she lies ALL the time. Plus she acts like you are dumb enough to believe her

My sisters step-son is like this. He's 11 and would lie soon as look at you! It doesn't matter what you ask him, he'll lie just for the sake of lying. I don't understand it at all!
