Someone got into my duck's house...ARGHHH!

Another vote for the electric fence and a good lock.

Then again, I think electric fencing solves 99% of problems

When I have to tie something up outside I use an insulated (plastic coated) cable and run the lock through my hot wire.

Does that mean kids aren't people. Sorry, just kidding. I know what you meant.

Let law enforcement handle it. Tell them what you found, who you suspect and why. They won't arrest anybody because of lack of evidence, but they will probably go talk with the boy and his parents. Meanwhile, put a lock on the coop.

I don't think my kids are people. They resemble rabid monkeys most of the time!

I too think an electric fence and padlock are probably called for in this case, though he will likely think of something else, thats the way people like that are.

thanks. i'm gonna keep an eye out and put a BUNCH of NOISEY stuff in front of the coop. we heard something around 10 last night, but had no idea it was kids getting into the house! never thought anyone would ever try that. my mom is best friends with all the cops so she's gonna tell them and they might help us out with security stuff (they are really nice guys.) i'm also gonna wait for the other suspected culprits to show up at the pond. i wouldn't expect anything nasty from them, and it would narrow us down to less suspects. i would ask the boy down the street, but he MIGHT get me attacked in school, so i'll avoid that. cops and parents can do that part. when i can, i'll get a lock for the coop and pen. poor birdies. i'm so ticked at whoever did it. when i find them, they are going to be destroyed. i'm not letting them do this. they can mess with me all they want, but they touch my ducks and thats when things get messy. ((no i'm not going to hurt them, just some few choice words at a loud volume....))

I'd say that you're very lucky nothing more was done to the ducks. For a vandal, he didn't really do much except freak you out, which I guess was the goal.

Oh, and we shut our ducks in the hen house at night so that they don't become a late night snack. They don't get water, never have at night. We've had ducks for years and always done this.

I hope you get your friend cops to bust whoever did it!

My chickens have access to, but never use the water at night. They are in their big pile from sundown to sun up. No one moves!

Duckie I think is just awful! I agree with the telling the police and getting a lock. Let the police confront the suspects.

Yeah, our chickens don't move either! And I guess I should mention that my step-dad is an EARLY riser, so the brood gets let out at 4:30-5:00 AM. And the ducks don't go to sleep until late 10:00-11:00 PM, so it's not really a long time, and they sleep through it.

Though we've never had any human problems, we did have to devise a different door to the hen house because of raccoons! We heard a commotion one night, ran out, and the silly coon had the door ajar! Grrr....

well my ducks can drink a gallon a night!! they sleep sometimes throughout the night, but are awake too. i talked to my neighbor who is friends with the younger kids i suspected, and she said she'd talk to them and make sure if they did do it, they won't do it again. right now, i've got LOUD traps set up. like a rock propped up on a metal stick hidden behind a large wood plank and when they move those to get in, the rock will fall onto a metal bucket. i've got a lot of noisey stuff that will let us know if anyone is over there.

eta: they even took part of the latch!! i don't know how they were able to get it out, but it was GONE! nowhere to be seen. i searched everywhere around the coop and NOTHING! ugh. so now i have to get a new bucket for water and a new latch! right now they just have a metal bucket. when it gots hot, i don't think that will work well.

, put a lock on the door, and place a sign saying "You are on CCTV" even if you have to put a dummy camera up........ also report it to the Police Dept ...... hope it does not happen again.
