Fishing line.......metal cans......glass bottles.....
String the line about 2' off the ground.....different lines for different items (cans, bottles) this way you can at least acomplish 2 things....
You will know which way they come from and you will LET THEM know you are watching!

And I aghree, If someone would do this to your pets...they WILL hurt your daughter.

Sounds like you have a sociopath in your neighborhood(really, and thats no joke... they usually move on to people next.. ).... people killing animals SHOULD get a response from the police..or the humane society at least. Make some waves..be LOUD about it. And YES, get a camera! But HIDE it.... you want to catch them in the act.

In Texas it is illegal to booby trap your yard, so when you set up your new security system, you may want to check on what you can use to catch the person. (other than what was already mentioned)

We are looking into moving.
The police dont want to do anything. They say we are making it appear larger then it is.
We live in a small town and only have a few full time officers, the rest are temps/part time from other towns.We've pretty much talked to every officer who works in town and they all rpetty much tell us the same thing.
There is only 1 officer who is actually looking into this. 1 officer told us, it was just kids having fun.
We called the humane society, but we are a good distance from them and they are super busy right now.

Im so mad, Im afraid if I catch them, I just might torture them. I love my animals more then words can explain and for some low life to come into my yard and harm them is messed up.

The kitten had its back end broke/smashed. The vet said it looked like someone throw it down on the sidewalk HARD. It had to be put down, since every bone in his back was broke.
No teeth marks or any signs of another animal harming it.

And yes I mean, someone is at home when the pets are outside. We dont live them outside to go to work, the movies or anything like that. But with a 2 year old running around, we can always be outside or even hear whats going on outside. But I never thought being outside for 15 mins was a death sentence, but it seems to be in this town.

My husband actually went and bought a gun becouse of all of this.
