someone have info on muscovies

I read that they were from Peru/SA/CA originally. They are of a different origin than all other ducks, which were bred from Mallards and need ponds, and like to perch. They have less body fat than water ducks and are said to taste more like veal (yuck). I picked them because they are the best fly catchers, don't require a pond and eat tons of slugs (Meningeal worms, spread by deer and carried by slugs, is leathal to alpacas and llamas and is a big problem here).

I'm on day 3 of incubating mine--I can't believe I have 30 more to go! Keeping the humidity up is my biggest problem.

Does anyone know, since they take 35 days, what should I be seeing at different stages of candling. As of last night all I saw was an air sack in the 3 I checked.

Good lcuk with yours hypnofrog--what colors are you getting? Mine are from a white female and a pied male. I have 8 eggs and am hoping for at least 2 (females, of course

I am hoping for some pied, chocolate ans whites. I may get a dozen or more so I dont have a bad hatch. 35 days of IBW makes a man go nuts ya know

. What are my chances of these guys hatching in the bator? out of 6 duck eggs I got one and was happy. If I where to get 24 how many do you think would hatch? I am better with chicken eggs

Hi everyone. Newbie here! (Smilies are not working for me...)

Being in SC (any neighbors??), mosquitoes, flies and ticks are problems and I was thinking of getting guineafowls as 90% of their diet is consist of insects...then I saw you all talking about muscovies!

Anyone who have experiense with both birds and share your opinion on which would be a better choice to have?
I love frongs in the pond, I'm afraid ducks will eat them all.
Can they?

Looking forward talking to you all more in the future:)

I love my muscovy duck. She's.... 7 years old now? And her sole purpose in life is to eat as many bugs as possible.

Seriously. If you walk into my back yard, and roll over a rock or pick up a brick, and expose some hapless bugs... she is at your side immediately. And she is your best friend for a week... even if she only follows you in hopes that you will pick up another brick.

I have some chocolate ones, a pie brown one, two whites and a wild types, which is the white and green. They are very friendly ducks. They don't require a pond but they do like to bath, so make sure you have a kiddy pool so they can wash once and a while.
