someone have info on muscovies

Yes, but if the muscovy mates your other ducks the off spring will be sterile.
We raise them here we have 2 females and one male, we had our first hatches last year. Our hatch rate was really good, only a few were lost. (about 27 ducklings spring - early fall)
They are a very friendly bird, but better if raised by you as ducklings.
They are very good at bug patrol. We raised some with our other ducks and had mule ducks, they were just as good at bug eating as the pure breed. We also raise them for meat, both the mules and pures are excellent tasting, and the way we eat it is to take the breast and take it off the bone for a boneless skinless breast, drizzle olive oil on it and rub on spices like garlic powder, some old bay, onion powder, cracked pepper. then grill it like you would a steak, and if you didn't know better you would swear you were enjoying the best cut of steak in the world.
yes, it is hard for me to eat something i have taken care of, but I know it was loved and cared for, and I know what it ate and where it's been.
I have a broody setting on 22 eggs right now, I tried to get some eggs off the nest but she out smarted me and had a fake nest! LOL!! So when I candled a few on day 7 I saw veins! I only candled a few.
Days 7-8 are good to candle.
I love having them, the only down side is they like to wonder off my property and they can fly as well, even the male even though he weighs at least 18lbs! The grass must be greener! My neighbor hates them, well all my animals and she is my SIL! My ducks are wanted criminals, she called the police on them! LOL!
We have a coop and covered pen for them now and I only let them out when I can watch them, we are working on a bigger fence to see if the will stay in the fence if it is bigger, like the bottom acre of our property!
I hope you do get some they are quiet, and only quack when very threatened! Even my mules were quiet!
Sorry so long, I just love talking about my muscovys!

Yes they do like to wonder. I had to sell most of mine as they liked to go on the road all the time. They do taste wonderful, when cooked right. They do ok with other ducks, but if you have many of them they will usually form their seperate groups. Muscovys do very wierd things to communicate with each other that normals ducks don't do. Mine like to stand in a circle facing each other and move their heads back and forth and make funny noises at each other. It make me laugh so hard to see them doing this that I almost pee myself, no one else finds it funny, but they don't watch them as much as i do. They are very entertaining to have.

Talk away! I am only going to have aout 5 and sell the eggs or eat them. They will be in a covered run because people shoot on there property. I would be so nervous aout them wondering on my evil neighbors side. he shoots in his backyard

yikes, no one has shot anything around here pet wise, but I could see that may be next!
They are fun, my male walks right up beside me and when I go in the coop and fill the feed dishes, I'm at his eye level and he comes up to me and hisses in my face and wags his tail and moves his head. I think he is trying to tell me the ladies are driving him insane, he seems so serious! LOL!!
He is a mess right now, they all look so tattered! I want spring so I can let them in the creek to play!
Let us know what you get,
Brenda

I grew up in South Florida suburbia where Muscovy ducks are like weeds with wings. Some folks here love them not too wisely but too well, and make a nuisance of themselves and the duck populations by dumping enormous amounts of food -- usually near someone else's property -- for the ducks to eat. Others find them to be a huge annoyance -- both the ducks and the duck feeders.

I had heard that they were imported here for some purpose and made So Fla their home. Like so many other invasive exotic animals & plants & tourists & developers...

So I find it surprising to hear of Muscovy ducks spoken about in such loving and glowing terms. It would take some doing to reprogram my prejudice against them, I wouldn't find it easy to choose Muscovies for meat or eggs.

Perhaps I should start catching & selling Muscovies to others outside of So Fla, then I could earn enough money to buy the Khaki Campbells I would prefer.

Wanna buy a duck?
