Better yet. Go to yard sales and purchase a lot of furniture. Then put it all out front with a sign that says Yard Sale. If anyone asks its not for sale. Just sit on it and drink in the front. Most citys allow for a 30 day yard sale. Then just bring it all inside for a week...have another sale.

Or as we are begining get a bit crazy, how about emotional support chickens ... lol I've seen stranger

Wait I looked up your ordinance . I dont know how to tell you this but you were misinformed by town hall, you needed a permit and possibly inspection if you own under 5 acres

No person shall keep chickens on a lot of under five acres unless that person shall comply with Chapter 150, Zoning and with the provisions of this article. Specifically, any person keeping poultry shall comply with Item 10 of "Permitted Accessory Uses" in the Schedule of Regulations for Residential Districts' and with the provisions of this section.

C.
Permit required.
(1)
Any person wishing to keep chickens on residential property of under five acres in the Town of Fishkill shall first obtain a permit from the Town Building Department and pay a fee, as set forth in the Town Fee Schedule. The permit application shall be on such forms as are provided by the Building Department. The written consent of the owner(s) of the subject real property shall be required for any application made by a person other than the property owner(s). The permit shall be valid for a period of one year from issuance.

(2)
Persons keeping chickens on residential property of under five acres as of the date of the adoption of this section shall have 30 days in which to apply for and obtain a permit.

(3)
Permits may be renewed by application to the Building Inspector. If no violations have been reported, the permit may be renewed for successive one-year periods. If violations have been reported, they must be remedied before the permit will be reissued. Inspection of the premises by the Building Inspector may be required.

I live out in wonky California, and we don't need permits to keep chickens here. Surprises the heck outta me. We need permits for EVERYTHING. Lol!

Sorry you are going through this ordeal. What i do not understand is when you first applied to town hall, that lady although, she told you that you need 10 acres, to
allow chickens, she also told you, or gave you the okay, to have them, as long as there
are no complaints.??? Which she did not help at all, as if she had told you, from the
start, you need 10 acres then you probably would not have bought any. So she is in the wrong, as for that neighbour, go and see him, and ask him, why he is acting towards you this way. especially when you could have rang the police on him, for staring through your window. You already pulled him up on it, and he shut up. So tell him again, that now
he is making you get rid of keeping your chickens, you will defo take action on him, as
looking through your window, coming out the bath. ( The perv.) Tell him, if my chickens go i will make sure you will be going as well. This guy seems a problem on his own, if
you ask me. lol I know you have not much time, and are worried sick, but show him,
you mean business. Plus that lady also gave you the thumbs up, for getting some.
I wonder if he has annoyed anyone else around there. Ask around and like others have
told you, get a petition going, as you have 2 things already going for you. I know you
probably do not need the stress ect. But at least you have tried your best, especially when it is only him, who is complaining. Do not forget, you also have your friend as witness, that time too. I really wish you good luck and hope you will find a way, to
be able to keep them. Your town needs shot of him, not your beautiful chickens. lol

i am on the local zoning board.get your permit.and no matter what keep your chickens. it is very very hard to legally remove a small backyard flock. keep it neat and clean.

I honestly wouldn’t have gotten them if the town people told me NO but they didn’t they said it’s a “hush hush town, as long as no one complains”

There are a lot of people on this site that like to make sure we all "take responsibility for our own actions" and show little compassion. Pay no attention to them.

Unless you are selling eggs or chickens, you don't fall under your town's definition of a farm, as you are producing no commodities. However, this does specify "group of parcels". Perhaps you can get enough neighbors to agree to specify their land as part of your parcel, leased for a nominal fee, like $1.00, so that you effectively have 10 acres. There is nothing in this by law which specifies those acres must be contiguous. Find a sympathetic land owner, even if they are across town.
