Someone keeps making complaints about my chickens! (Update post #222!)

The best defense is sometimes a good offense. Demand that they make the neighbor stop harrassing you. You are legally allowed to have chickens and perhaps they can inform the complaintant of that fact and tell him/her to quit wasting their time.

Go put some eggs on her front step!!!! HAHAHAHA

Kill her with kindness, that gets'em every time!!!

Well, my earlier point is that even if you don't know who is filing the complaints, the public servants do. If they consistently see that you are doing nothing wrong, perhaps you can get them to go visit the complaintant to get to the bottom of their issue, even if they don't tell you who that complaintant is.

They can't be stupid; after several visits, they must know that someone is using them and the system to anonymously harrass you.

In my case, I *did* know who was calling the police, but all it took was the police dropping by the neighbor's place and no doubt explaining the perils of making false reports that put a stop to the problem.

Another complaint!

Chickens destroying their yard and plants, and a new addition to the general complaint...my chickens are now harassing and scaring their children.

Right.

Did you know that absolutely none of my neighbors have young children? They are all adult children...

Plus, how do chickens harass children? When my chickens see strange children they run.

The code enforcer today said that they wanted to close my case. He told my husband that. I'm not sure exactly what that means, I'm hoping it means they will no longer listen to these complaints.

wow, I read all 3 pages and read your blog about this. I know confrontation is generally not a good rule, but maybe if just you and your hubby can go over and just plain ol ask them (her) if the chickens are bothering her.

Next, anyway you can get a lawyer to draft up a letter of protection stating you are within your legal rights to own the chickens and possibly procur a name from code enforcement on who the complainer is? Here in my county you are only allowed one anonymous complaint against a neghbor. Any subsequent complaints from them would be released as to the source.

This is BS and we all know it, how frustrating for you. I don't know what I would do in your shoes, but I am sure I wouldn't have been as patient.

ETA- your lil Rosie collecting the eggs is priceless, worth every second of the bull to be able to see that face.

I think you should consider installing motion lights or something. It sounds like you have a mentally unstable person in your neighborhood, and since they are not getting anywhere with the authorities as far as getting rid of the chickens, they may try to take matters into their own hands. Forewarned is forearmed.

My concern would be that if they stop taking the complaints and they have in there twisted heads that the chickens bother them- I would worry about them doing something to hurt them. Maybe someone should take a visit to all the neighbors. Talk to them and if someone has a problem show them the codes and let them know that there is nothing illegal.. and maybe get a copy of all the anonymous complaints with the resolution from each one....

I hope you get this taken care of. Please keep us posted.

I don't know if this is about me, but I emailed the person who posted these and asked them what street the chicken owner lives on because my neighbor also has a lot of chickens.

My neighbors don't have any flowers...or a garden. And my two cuckoo marans roosters are big fat birds who don't ever fly anywhere or attack anyone. My toddler pets them all the time.

It is one thing for someone to file a complaint but continuous complaints that are clearly unfounded and false should be considered as harassment.

I would think this could be pointed out and corrected as with all the times they came out and you talked to them and no violations noted, you would think they would get a hint that this was clearly a malicious neighbor trying to cater tho their own agenda and using them to do it
