in fact, i set out some raw meat with a motion detector alarm close by.

that hawk will be mine by the end of the day. guaranteed.

We have cross country power lines right behind our house and 3 hawk nests on the towers, all within easy sight of my coop/run. I let my chickens free range for several hours a day supervised, and have seen the hawks hunting over the power lines numerous times without any trouble from them.
(my Roo's raise the alarm whenever one is fairly close)

Maybe they're satisfied eating the mice and rabbits they catch on the power lines?
It would be alot easier meal than trying to negotiate all the tree cover to try for the chickens in my yard.

I still keep a very close eye on them.

I think I might just go ahead and put a top on my run now.

OMG. I just saw this post... I can't even believe that a hawk had the NERVE!!
Buffy is looking good in those pictures. Her eyes are bright and it looks like she still has that "fire". Give her a huge kiss for me! I hope she feels better soon!

Poor thing. She looks alert in the pics! That's always a good sign. She seems pretty calm too. Time to wring that hawks neck

When i think my chickens are stressed as the first two days I had them and when they moved to the coop I offered water in a 1 qt waterer with 11/2 tsp sugar dissoved in the cool water. they liked it and I felt it gave them energy to deal with the stress. the longest I offered it to them was 2 dayswhen I first got them. I saw your wrapped hen. She looks like she's dealing with the trauma fairly okay. thanks for keeping us posted. Micaela

took her to the vet this morning. they're going to fix her stitches and put a hard splint on her wing.
but they said i have potential and should consider being a vet. hahahha. they were really surprised with how well i wrapped and splinted her.

anyhow. here are some pictures after her bath last night.
