Someone PLEASE help!!

Something is wrong with my black rock hen. I found her curled up in a ball outside. And it is winter!! She wont open her eyes at all and is weak. So i brought her inside... then i dicovered she has bugs on her!! I think it might be mites. Can someone tell me what is happening and what should i do?

I have never had that problem before, but lice not mites can be fatal to chickens. Hopefully all she needs is some tlc. But definitely try to rid her of those hideous bugs!

You need to treat her with a permethryn powder, also treat the coop as all of your other birds will be affected with the mite infestation... it may be advisable to bathe your chicken to help eradicate the mites... they feed on the blood of chickens and can result in killing the chicken(s) through blood loss.. do keep the sick bird inside and maybe give her scrambled eggs, tuna fish or some high protein feed to help her until you get some treatment that will eradicate the mites.

Sorry for your loss. Visually inspect your other chickens for external parasites, especially around their vent area. If you see any, dust them with sevin dust, then redust them again in 7-10 days. Same with the inside of the coop and nests.
