Got a knock on the door today. It was Animal Control. The officer said they received an anonymous phone complaint that we had "a LOT of animals". i told her we have four indoor cats, then outside chickens and 3 Nigerian Dwarf Goats. i told her we did a lot of research before moving here, and according to Code Enforcement, and with our acreage, we were allowed to have all the poultry (ducks, turkeys, etc) we wanted, and any farm animal that does not exceed 75 pounds at adult weight. i told her our dwarf goats aren't over 30 pounds each. She asked if she could take a look and i said "fine".

Took her in back, apologized that it was a bit messy. She said she only needed to make sure our animals had food, water, and adequate shelter. She looked at all the animals and said everything looked fine. She mentioned she had farm animals and we got to chatting. After a short while, i could see she was a good person, animal lover, had taken in rescue chickens and other animals. At the end, she assured me she would close this out with a finding of "charges unfounded".

i feel good that we passed muster. But now wondering which neighbor turned us in. i suspect our next door neighbor with whom we have had issues was the culprit. What a weenie! But VERY glad we had all our ducks in a row (so to speak) before we bought this house. Nice to know we are safe from weenies with issues.

How annoying of your neighbor!

But I'm glad to hear you easily passed the "inspection" and even had a nice talk with the officer. Looks like your neighbor doesn't have room for complaints now!

Well, the complaint wasn't about noise, or smell, or anything tangible - which could have been an issue aside from code enforcement. Someone just said "They have a lot of animals". How petty! It's like, we're not bothering anyone, we just have a lot of animals. Lucky for us, we're allowed to have these animals, and they are well cared for. i honestly devote my life to keeping these critters safe and happy and well. i wish i knew for sure it was those particular neighbors, although i'm pretty darn sure it's them. Neener, neener, neener - i get to keep my chickens (and goats, and turkeys, and guineas)!

I dont like people like that neither, busybodies with nothing else better to do. Try offering your neighbors (all of them in the immediate area) a dozen eggs, for free of course. This might calm the busybody down some. I have a feeling that if you dont, the busybody will find something else to nitpick you with. Good luck.

Techniqually, you coulda asked for a warrant for the AC officer to comeon to your property...that's why she "asked"...had she found ANYTHING she could've ticketed you or reported you to police, & you'da had a nice time of it in court...But, alas, you've nothing to hide (as most people don't, but I ENJOY my privacy)& it turned out well...

i suppose i could have refused her to look. But giving her a tour nipped this thing in the bud. Of course our pens are always a work in progress, and i would have liked them to look prettier. We've had a friend helping the past couple of months to put up roofing and help clean. So, other than some empty hutches and lot's of tools laying around, things looked pretty good. You could see we've put a lot of work into providing safe coops and pens for our kids. i also know exactly what the law is in regards to keeping farm animals here. i can quote it off the top of my head at a moments notice.

i really appreciated that she was so nice - clearly an animal lover herself.
