Something attacted my flock

I didn't find the chickens bodies, except 1. My animals were very friendly. The ducks are still the most traumatized, they were even afraid to come to me after the attack.

You must be heartbroken. We've had a respite from predators but now they are back. Feel so helpless.

My OWN dog killed one of my buff Orpingtons yesterday. By the time I saw him, he had a second one in his mouth, shaking it. I ran out and he let her go and jumped back out of the run. It took me a few minutes to realize one was missing. I found her dead next to the side of our shed. When my husband came out to discipline him, he turned on him and bit him. Needless to say, the dog immediately went to the shelter and my husband to the ER, since there was one puncture that was pretty deep, on the inside of his wrist, bleeding pretty bad. We've had Charlie since he was 10 weeks old, now 1 1/2 years old. I'm so saddened by the whole event and since he bit a person, he will most likely be put down. I was always told that once they get a taste of blood, they won't stop. Has anyone else has this experience? I also have 4 and 11 year old boys and while he's always been good with them, it made me crazy nervous to allow him around them after this. Thoughts?

What breed is he? I have never had a dog bite a person.

I do have lots of thoughts.... Not all are nice so I will be very brief.

If your dog could jump in and out of the run your fence is lacking. Your dog was young and doing what young dogs do.
If your husbands "discipline" involved any grabbing, hitting, rubbing the dogs nose in it, yelling etc. then he earned a bite. The dog would have been behaving as expected.... Self defense.
I am fairly sure that your reaction to the dead hen made your dog fully aware that he had done a wrong.
