Not always. My neighbor had a mink living in her coop, between the outside and inside walls. The coop was an old trailer house and still had the fridge in there. One day after her birds started disappearing one by one (grown, standard sized birds) she saw some feathers near the fridge, went over and shook it and the mink came flying out from behind it, and ran between her legs. (Which would have scared the hoo ha out of me!) She wasn't able to kill it, but did move her birds and left the door open to the coop so her dog could get in there. The dog eventually killed it.
