I collared it so noone here in SC would dare shoot it.Would you like proof of my cut up hands too see for yourself if he is ferel?

Gimme a break.

Chicken wire only keeps chickens IN, doesn't keep predators out. That is the weakest link of your coop. Oh my yes, coons can climb, and they are persistent and smart - they can figure out how to get into anything unless you stop them. I wouldn't use straight peroxide, it burns tissue which sure doesn't help healing. You could get an oinment like polysporin or bacitracin (or combination) if you don't like neosporine. Just don't get anything with 'caine" in it (as in benzocaine, etc.) as a painkiller I've heard it is very bad for chickens.

Your single winger sounds like a real plucky gal. Good for her, I hope she will continue to do well. It's amazing what chickens can overcome.

Nothing in my trap this morning. Maybe tomorrow.

My little silkie with 1 wing is doing great. I don't think she even realizes that she has a handicap.

Coons and birds of prey are the only head eaters.

I have never encountered a chicken that has only had a wing chewed off. That still lived.
I hope you let us know when you catch the killer.

We have not had any preditor issues since we have re-enforced runs.
Our sides are 1" gal poultry wire up the sides.
1" HD poultry netting on tops.
Hot wires at 4" 12" and 36" around the pen.

Hawks are our only problem when the birds are out in the pasture in summer.

Best of Luck

Still no luck catching the predator in the trap. I am keeping it out and keeping it set.
My chickens are doing great. The little silkie is healing up nicely and gets around just fine. I am keeping her in the house away from the others for a few more weeks though.
