Something Fishy - a thread for fish owners

Pics
About 6 mos., except for stinky & feisty. Stinky lived for over two years and came down with something I couldn’t identify. Feisty sadly passed because I was messing with his tank and accidentally released a nitrogen bubble. That was the last time I kept one in a “traditional” betta tank. I really hate those things. They’re so cute and small and fit just about anywhere. Which is bad for a fish tank.

Yeah, the tanks that are made especially for betta fish are not actually big enough to put any living thing in, besides maybe plants and a few snails. I hate that those tanks are sold all over the place.

We have two. Our Senegalus I think got stunted because he’s around two years old and still smaller than a hot dog. But, our Delhezi is around one year and as big as a bratwurst!
I’ve been desperately trying to find someone who actually knows anything about them. I even reached out to someone at the aquarium, but haven’t had a response. I think I’ll give them a call sometime. I would love to see some more research about them.

Im on another forum for fish keepers. They keep all sorts of big predatory fish down to the smallest schoolers and inverts. There is a wealth of knowledge there on fish keeping just like this site is for poultry.

I get so mad when you see people buy those or buy the fish and tank at the same time. And the store people say nothing! That’s what I’ve dine before and then they suffer and die within maybe a month at the longest. It’s very disheartening

Is that on this site or another one? I looked before I started this and didn’t see anything jumping out at me. I’d hate to have cut in on someone else's thread.

Do you mean Tropical Fish Forums? I'm on that one, and there really are so many helpful and knowledgeable people on there.

I’ve never heard of that one. I’m on monster fish keepers and the Minnesota fish keepers websites.
My states fish site isn’t very active so I haven’t been on it in a long while. But mfk is really great and very active. You’ll find a lot of information on bichirs and other fish that aren’t common to most people. 🙂

I’ll have to check it out. :)

Checking in. I don't really have fish anymore though strangely I still have a container pond with gosh knows what in it... hornwort, anacharis, frogbit, and some flowering bog plant frogs (eek) I don't know. When I cleaned out the 40g pond to make it a container garden I was startled by this huge bull frog hiding in the muck in the bottom. Super creepy. I still have my 40g 'going' with a few plants in it. With all this talk of fish lately I might get the 40g tidied back up again for a restart. 🤔 I wish I could talk DH into letting me set it up downstairs in the living room but he worries the cats would be a problem. *sigh*

Welcome! I’m SO glad you stopped in!
What exactly is DH concerned about with the cats?
My cats, one in particular, are the 2nd main reason I got fish in the first place. There’s nothing better than cat TV.
What kind of cover do you have?
Do you have a very stable place for it?
How many cats?

If the tank has a lid cats aren’t a problem. I’ve never had problems with cats and tanks or my pond.
