Something Fishy - a thread for fish owners

Pics
It's a 40g breeder tank on industrial shelving rated for 1200+lbs. Glass lid with an opening in the back for the canister filter lines. LED shop light and grow light laying across the top.

*I* know that it's most likely not a problem with cats and we could figure out a work around for the lights and maybe the opening (I liked the ventilation, would prefer not to close it all the way) There was an earlier incident with one of our cats who liked to sit on top of a smaller aquarium with a plastic lid. The cat was fine for about a year and then out of the blue when no one was looking tried to squeeze his big self onto the aquarium, crashed the lid down into the tank. Happened again when I thought I'd fixed it. 😒 DH is not a big fan of fish really or any animal other than cats. He uses the cat tank crashes as the main excuse anytime I mention it.

I'm just gonna bide my time about changing the location. It'll happen eventually lol.

:lau:lau:lau Don't you wish you could have had that on video?
Yup, same here with the one that looks like shes drinking out of the tank. She’s ~12 lbs and that is a 5 gal. She fell in twice! Little butthead would NOT leave that tank alone. She insisted on sitting on it. I left a glowing review for the light we use on that one particular giant shopping website
I have to admit I caved and took it down. It’s in my office right now waiting to be functional again.
I refuse to get it started until I know for sure we wont shut down again. I don't want to risk the fish.

Haha😆
Cats are drawn to the running water. They do make fountain water dishes for that reason. It actually encourages them to drink more water. And that’s always a good thing for cats.
The only reason I did t like my cats drinking from my tanks was because He was dipping his paw in and would leave a water puddle behind on the plastic lid.
I have really hard water, so it would evaporate and leave deposits behind. Not a nice look. Sure it came off with some vinegar, but cleaning it all the time got irritating. So I taped over the spot he was drinking from. It didn’t stop him from sitting on the lid, but it did stop the water mess.

Oops! I went to the fish store today and spent a little too much. If thats even possible 🤣
I bought:
2 bolivian rams & 2 siamese algae eaters for the planted 20g
4 cherry & 2 blue fanatasy shrimp for one tank at work
4 ember tetras for the other tank at work
4 ottos, 3 black neons and clown pleco for the 55g. This one is trying to get me to believe that its dead 🤣. I had just messaged the store when I thought I saw it move. I went ahead and acclimated it and put it into an isolation tank it case it does die, so I can find it again.

I've been fighting the urge... Still working on getting the tank into the shape we want it before adding anybody. These guppies that we inherited just keep multiplying, so I've been working on rehoming as many as I can and making the tank as pleco friendly as possible, that guy has really grown on me over the last 6 months😊. I don't mind the guppies, but I'd really like something a little different, something that doesn't keep increasing its population quite so much...

I feel your pain 🤣🤣. They're not called millions fish for nothing! You could try selling them or giving them to a fish store. I know petco usually takes in fish and shrimp.

Im crossing my fingers they will do well. I have to wait until tomorrow to put them into the tank. The guy doesnt use oxygen, so they are sitting in regular bags until I go in tomorrow. :fl
My pleco is still not sure if it wants to be okay or continue playing dead. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Hope all goes well! Are the shrimp going in a mixed tank or one of their own?

I come here now to complain of my own fishtanks woes. My reef tank has suddenly gotten out of whack. We figured out the problem finally, and it looks like everyone is going to survive. But there are many, many water changes in my future :hit Pity me and my pruny fingers:p
