Hi, I have a small female silkie that has refused to eat or drink. I put her in water to cool her down and she drank some while she was in there, good sign I thought. She can’t walk, she’s too weak. And she had pooped herself. I put her back in the coop and she ate some yogurt and bread. She’s in her own spot where no other chickens can get to her so she can rest and eat on her own. Is there anything else I can do to help her?

Her breathing is steady, and she reacts to noises and movements. She’s been making sounds when I help pick her up to drink.

Thanks,
Norman the chicken.

How old is she? How hot is it there? Could others have kept her from food and water? Does she lay eggs? Can you post a picture of her?

Not sure exactly how old she is, maybe a year. Give or take a few months. Yes others could have kept her from food and water. I don’t think she’s layed eggs for a couple days. It’s 86° F now, it was id say around 90° F or higher when we dipped her.

I checked on her a few minutes ago and with my help, she stood up and drank some water. She also ate a few small bits of bread. She’s looking better.

Hope I could give some at least helpful information.

Make sure that she is taking water. Electrolytes, Poultry NutriDrench or Gatorade would be helpful, and hold some up to her beak with a scoop or cup. Cooked egg or tuna or wet chicken feed are things most chickens will take. In case she is egg bound, you can try to rule that out by inserting a clean finger inside her vent about an inch or so.

We are going to get her gatorade. She is doing well. She is a bit more stable, and is resting. She will have her own little spot where no other chickens are until she is fully better. I haven’t tested yet, but what could we do if she is egg bound?

Thanks.
