Something is wrong with my male guinea's eyes

I'm hoping I can put it on at least 3 times a day, if that's enough. The only way i can catch him is to use a net and then pick him up from the net (with gloves...sharp little toe nails!) And then once I have him he's totally calm. Which I'm surprised he's like that since he's not exactly tame. I'm just worried about stressing him out doing it several times especially in the heat. Anyway, I gave him 1/4 of a 25mg benedryl. Since he's so swollen....poor thing! Both sides of his face is swollen (eyes half way open) and his left wattle is swollen, but the right one isn't. It is worse than I initially thought, so tomorrow I think I'm going to get some antibiotics. I'm just praying that none of the others get it, and that I can save him. I also kept 3 young chickens in there with them, so just in case I moved them out of there, and of course I quarantined the sick guinea. I think the benedryl helped, he was a little frisky a bit after I gave it to him. I think he's reallt upset that he's away from the others. Tomorrow I'm getting the other babies out of there and cleaning the coop and disenfecting it. I've had keets in the past with different adults and they all got along great, my adults now are mean to them. So I have no choice but to pen up the adults so the babies can have a fair chance at exploring. Ugh, I've just made myself sick over this. I've never had a sick bird before. So if I act like all kinds of crazy in my posts, I apologize.

Most of the diseases on the link I gave to you don't affect guinea fowl. Did your guinea have any bad smell from his head/nostrils?
Did anything change on your farm such as new birds brought in?
It's no fun trying to catch and work with guineas. They are pretty independent birds.

Thanks for the tag @Wickedchicken6 , but I don't know a thing about Guinea fowl or the illnesses they may have. Hopefully @casportpony may have a better idea.

The only thing I can suggest, if no one else knows, is to consult an avian vet if you can find one. Keeping mucous cleared, the eyes cleaned out and see that he stays hydrated are the only recommendations I can make.

I hope he gets better.

Thank you @Wyorp Rock I appreciate your input. :highfive:

Ok.. thank you @casportpony. That helps me to understand in this regard. It seems that chickens with swollen faces and nasal discharge...it's usually attributed to a specific pathogen; MG, Coryza etc

I'm sure I've missed posts about guinea illnesses...but guinea fowl don't seem to contract as many things. I notice from the link I posted...guineas don't share many respiratory illnesses unless they're experimentally infected. I'm sure the more guineas I have...the likely I will see something. @Kmajta88 mentioned this is her first bird to be sick.
That learning curve...:th

I have good news! I've been using collodial silver drops in his eyes and nostrils, and I took a gamble and gave him 1/4 of a 25mg benedryl every 8 hours to reduce the swelling and he's MUCH better! The swelling is completely gone, his eyes are open fully, and his nostrils are cleared up! I also put some VetRX in his water. When I caught him the first time to treat him, he didn't fight like I thought he would, probably cause he felt bad. Now he's back to his feisty self! He's eating and drinking just fine also. He's just super upset to be separated from the others. He's constantly calling them and running back and forth in his coop desperately trying to get to them. I think maybe it was a sinus infection because all of my other birds are okay. Also, I'm thinking that if it was worse than a sinus infection, I'm not sure if benedryl and collodial silver would've helped as much as it did. I've added some new chicks to my flock but none have been around my guineas. Since I've never had any of my birds have an illness before, how long do you guys suggest I treat him and keep him quarantined? I don't want to release him too soon. I'm just so relieved that the benedryl and collodial silver helped. I'm hoping it's enough to just treat him with that. I tried to find poultry antibiotics but couldn't find anything. I read on another post that Tractor Supply had poultry antibiotics but the one in my area did not. So, for now I'm just glad that the treatment I gave him worked. Thank you everyone for your input and advice!
