Something new to me !

If you're a good judge on chicken egg development, then I'd say the "dark" one is probably somewhere around 18-19 days. The other is probably closer to the 2 weeks your friend said- it's possible the hen laid the first egg and it started incubation on its own if the weather is very hot near you. If I recall, the hens lay a couple days apart, so she may have started setting at the second egg after the first had started.

Sounds like a pretty good prospect though, especially for the darker one. The farther along in incubation eggs are, the better chance they have of surviving periods without constant incubation.

Looking forward to baby pictures in a couple weeks!

They like to roost very high, as high as they can get. I've heard from people who free range theirs that they roost 25 feet up in trees if they can.

I have a hen who does this a lot she will lay one egg start sitting and lay a few more over the course of a few days, so the all started incubating at different times

Well, you can't blame them, they have such very small brains, it is hard to remember when those eggs appeared!

Sometimes I do blame them like, "They are dropping their trains without my permission!" and "That hen is being lazy and not laying!" I am slowly going crazy I think
