Something that happend this halloween...

Yeah, that was by no means your fault. I second the 'kill them with kindness'. Take Tess a doggie gift basket or make some homemade treats or something. You'll see just how injured she really is.

It's sad when 'family' will screw you over worse than strangers. My relatives can be that way too

Yea I dont think it's your fault either for all the reasons stated above.

Also the "internal stitches" thing seems very weird and suspect to me, also the
fact that no one has seen the dog. Myself, I would contact the vet and ask exactly
what happened, there are rules about dog bites and if a vet treated her dog because
it was attacked by another, I think by law he has to report it to animal control. Since
you havent heard from animal control.... I am finding it all hard to believe. Of course I'm
in CA , maybe laws are different here but I don't know......

Good luck!

and So sorry about the loss of your mom!

It's an unfortunate situation, but if I read and understand your post correctly, I believe you & your dogs were at your Dad's house and your aunt decided to come over to your dad's AFTER BEING TOLD that your dogs were on the premises. She comes over anyway, with her dog NOT on a leash, and her dog is injured. This is in NO WAY your fault, even if your dog was not on a leash. She knew your dogs were there, she knew her own dog's behavioral tendencies, and it was HER poor judgement and lack of restraint on her own dog that led to its injuries. If you want to try to keep from having a family rift, you may choose to make indirect contact to check on the dog, but if you think this is going to become a legal matter, DO NOT admit any wrongdoing or indicate that your dog was part of the problem!!! The problem was your aunt's poor judgment, plain and simple.

Speak with the vet about the injuries and the extent of them. If you feel you should help with the vet bills, only give money to the vet after seeing an itemized list of charges there IN the office. I don't feel it is all your fault, but it takes two to tango and to try and keep peace you'll need to accept part of the blame. Tell her to leave her dogs home or control them in her sight at all times and this won't happen again.

I feel sending her a gift basket or a bone will only say 'its my fault'
I take part of the blame cause I knew rudi wasnt a fan of the dog but I didnt know she was going to bring it over without restraining it first....
I always like to introduce dogs under my eye to make sure there is no problems....
I didnt get a chance this time and a horrible thing happend.
Lesson learned on both parts

Exactly! It's not like she showed up out of the blue. She called ahead specifically to ask if you were there. She knew the risk and took it. Unfortunately, it was her dog that suffered. She is 100% at fault. Your dog was being a dog. She's just blaming you because she feels that she is a terrible pet owner, which she is for putting her dog in that situation. Sorry about your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss for one I can not imagine

As for your dog attacking your aunts dog...no ones fault BUt your aunts! It's not even her dogs fault.....her dog doesnt have the guidance it obviously needs AND she just let her go and run off into your yard...she should haev known better that that would happen.

That is yoru dogs territory!

If a dog came into my yard and got into a fight with my dogs...i wouldnt pay a cent for any injuries their dog got HOWEVER you betcha I'd force their owners to pay for any of my dogs injuries due to it...my property, not theirs.

IMO she doesnt have a leg to stand on legally.
