I would love to share with you a goat milk soap recipe - but I can't.
Let me tell you why -
If you are not careful when working with lye you can badly burn yourself and cause serious injuries.
I don't give out any type of soap recipes due to the this one reason. If I were to give out a recipe and someone used it with out understanding the sopanification process I could be held potentially liable for the disaster.
This is what I will share with you -
If you are not experienced in soapmaking get tons of books at the library and read, read, read.
Go to a website with a proven lye calculator and formulate your recipe there.
Try a small batch using the goat milk and see what the out come is.
When you work with goatmilk something about the milk causes the temps to rise really high if you haven't cooled the lye solution low enough and the batches will fail every time. Goat milk soap is a bit more of a science than other soaps.
If you add honey to it you create yet another chemical reaction that cause the batch to fail.
Read, read, read then formulate a recipe based on the values of the exact oils and fat solids you will be using.
Does this make sense?
I am always ready and willing to share recipes but with the lye involved and children and lesser careful adults that might be tempted to try a recipe from a open forum I made it a personal policy not to give out a recipe. Lye is caustic and can explode in your face if you are not careful and the idea of someone having an accident really bothers me.
I hope you understand.
I can point you in the direction of a good lye calculator and tell you to use your best recipe and substitute the water for the milk.
I understand completely. I've been making lye based soaps since the 80's, but now that you say it, I'd hate to be responsible for anyone else doing it, either.
I'd appreciate any links that you think are appropriate, and will search the rest. Thank you.
Thank you, SpottedCrow.
LOL, KellyGwen & Jolyn! I think my cute boy will be minus some of his extra hair pretty soon, so will need another name. Thank you!
sred, that's true, she looks more innocent than the other doe....but I know better than to go on looks alone! lol! I hope you get some soon!
You're on the money, Ksacres! But, I was told that the buck was a Nigerian, the does were Pygmies, and the kid a cross of the 2. I could be completely off, but the does just don't look like pygmies to me, at least not pure ones. Then today I found out that the does and buck were gotten from someone else....they didn't breed them, so they may not know. Thanks for the thoughts!
Helmstead, he's absolutely adorable! I'm so glad for you!
