something weird on my roosters head.

Yes. Mostly. I’m afraid they might be deeper in wounds or in his sinuses.
it’s not looking good. He’s weak and exhausted after treating.
So sorry. Flystrike is difficult to treat because the eggs and maggots can get pretty deep in the wounds. Antiseptics will kill them too if you do repeated cleanings.

For the weakness, I recommend giving him electrolytes (save a chick, hydro hen) and putting him somewhere dark and warm to rest.

If you can, I'd definitely get him to an avian or farm vet. He will likely need oral antibiotics on top of everything else.

@Diane H how is your rooster doing today? I've been thinking about you both
Unfortunately he didn’t make it. When I was cleaning him up I realized it was worse inside, in his sinuses and in his wound.
I decided the most humane thing was to cull. Never an easy choice. Having gotten a much closer look post-mortem though it makes me think it wasn’t just roosters fighting. The wounds make me think a predator got in the run. Another Roo had some injuries that didn’t make sense. On his leg and wing. So not an easy day. Thanks for your concern.

Thank you all for your advice and concern. It was worse than it first looked.
I think it was actually a predator attack based on the injuries.
so I made the difficult decision to cull. It seemed the most humane.

I'm so sorry. You did the right thing putting him out of mis pain, some people, probably me, wouldn't' be strong enough to make that decision. You did what you could to save him, and will only learn.
In the future, its important to bring anything with an open wound inside away from flies, or they may suffer the same fate. I'm so sorry for your loss, you did everything you could for him, don't you dare thing otherwise. :hugsSending hugs

Thank you. I always second guess my choices
“ what could I have done differently?”
I’m this case I should have been more diligent about his environment. I should have brought him into the house.
thank you for your kind words.

Everyone has to make a choice on what’s right. I’m sorry for your loss. 😣💔
