I put in 14 Wyandotte eggs and only 5 made it to lockdown. It's day 22 and 2 chicks have tried to hatch, with 1 of them being successful so far. :\ He has a twisted foot and maybe something wrong with where his umbilical cord was attached.

What is this, and will it heal? I had a chick from my first hatch who had internal organs hanging out of his vent, and I thought that this might be that, but upon looking, I don't think it is. I can get a better pic if you need it. I appreciate your opinions and thoughts.

They are supposed to be in the incubator for awhile to dry and fluff up. He is in the incubator, I just took him out to take a picture. That being said, mine have never fully fluffed in the incubator. I've always had to move them to brooder to finish, I guess because my incubator is a still air. I know I'm being kinda impatient, it's just that this is my only hatched chick, the day after Hatch day and I don't have much hope for the rest. I want to know if he's going to be okay. :\

Is it acting normal otherwise?

It may just be part of the U.C. and will dry out and fall off after a while. I've had them drag yolk sacs around and have all sorts of terrifying things hanging out/off/around them, but given time to fluff out they've always come out fine as long as they were acting normal to begin with.

I've got a still air and one with a fan. The fan makes a lot of difference. Mine are usually fully fluffed before I put them in the brooder. I also try to keep an eye on the humidity because it shoots through the roof once they start hatching.

He's acting normal. I'm only worried because he's the only 1 to hatch so far. It's just kinda weird and swollen looking. I'm not gonna mess with it. Hopefully it will fall off. The first chick I ever had to cull (Well, my dad culled it, but still) had internal organs hanging from it's vent. He acted normal and ran around for the 1st hour or so, but he got weaker and weaker and ended up laying in a towel on my chest until my dad got home and could cull him. It was an absolutely horrible experience and now I'm a little paranoid about weird looking things on that end of chicks. I'm assisting another chick right now so hopefully he'll have a buddy to play with until my duck hatches her clutch and they can go join them. I'm hoping I'm playing my cards right and end up with at least 2 healthy chicks by the end of today.
