Help! One of my buff Americana chicks, only 3 days old, seems to be having trouble swallowing this morning. There is a slight clicking sound when she tries to swallow or moves her beak, and her chirp is muffled sometimes. She can't sleep as the swallowing keeps her up, and she hasn't eaten that I've seen. I've offered grit, but she's not interested. I've had her drink a few times, and massaged her throat. I've even taken a look to see if there is a wood chip visible just inside her beak, but nothing.
Anyone seen this, or know what to do?

Could she have aspirated? If there is a clicking while breathing this is usually what has happened.. maybe ahes not swallowing but tring to breath?

Now that I do not know... I use to raise parrots and if one aspirated we would put it on antibiotics and hope for the best... however not sure about chickens as im new to them :( so sorry about ur lil one... maybe someone else will know what to do on here! I would try to make a mash and see if she will eat some... make it with warm water

I'm sorry to report that Clyde died just a few minutes ago. I'm hurting, but I guess that there was little more that I could do. Thanks so much for your help. Hopefully anyone with this problem will have better luck with theirs, and as I read in several feeds after this started happening- don't turn your chicks upside down ( or on their backs)
