somethings wrong with her eye?

So we traded a couple of young roosters for some little pullets at a local swap meet. I know...a lot of the animals at the swap meets are all sick and desiesed...shame on me

...But anyway, we brought them home and they semmed just perfect, a week after, one of them had some sort of eye infection or something. One of her eyes is closed all the way and has some puss and foamy stuff around it, i separated her to a separate pen. I noticed that when i got these pullets, allot of the other ones that were with them at the swap meet had this same condition. What is it? Will some ACV work? How do you cure it?Thanks

I had a chick that developed the same type of eye problem. She was only a week or so old, but she turned her little head so the other 2 chicks couldn't see her problem. I separated her and washed her eye with a homeopathic drop for pink eye called Similasan (purchased at a local store like Walgreens) three times a day. I bought an antibiotic cream called Terramycin at Farm Store for $12.95. I applied the cream with a Q-tip around her eye. It took almost 2 weeks before she was healed, but it is 7 years later and she is still healthy. Here are some before and after pics. She's my girl. Hope this helps you.

You stated that when you got the pullets at the swap meet that other birds with them had the same condition. That tells me that most likely whatever it is.....is contageous and you've probably risked introducing a respiratory disease into your flock. I recommend that you cull the pullets and hope it didnt spread to your other birds.

Thanks guys. Ive been checking on her and the foamy stuff is gone, she can open her eye just a little bit. So its a respiratory desiese? Thats interesting... . I'm not into culling unless its for food or they are in a terrible state; theres not much meat on her and she seems to be getting better so culling is out of mind right now.

I dont know why, but my chickens never get sick. I remember getting two hens with a really bad case of scaly leg mites. The mites wre gone within a week or so and it never spread to the other chickens. So im not that concerned about the other pullets spreading the sickness to the other ones. I only separated her in fear of others pecking at her eye. Im sure by September that she will be perfectly fine and the desiese will have completely died off.....but in the meantime, i still need information about this respiratory desiese. Has anyboy tried neosprin or some agave cactus? The feed stores around here dont really sell chicken medication or anything like that. They do sell stuff for horses tho. I have blue-kote. Will that work?
