Yesterday my chicken, Houdini, was fine. Today she has something weird going on with her eye. She's still eating and drinking and behaving otherwise normally, other than wanting extra loves. I've given her and the rest of the flock 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar for each gallon of water and some colloidal silver. I don't know what else to do! No one else is having any problems. I haven't introduced any new birds to the flock. Her eyeball seems to be pushed to the side from the infection or whatever the swelling is. Any ideas on what this is and how to treat it? Is it as serious as it looks?

I'm very new to chicken keeping and haven't had any illnesses as of yet, but I've heard of droopy eye; could that be it?

I really don't know! I tried researching, but I keep coming up with loads of different names for problems that look *similar* to this, but nothing looks quite right in the pictures. Then I keep seeing so many conflicting ideas on how to treat it! I'm having such a problem trying to find out how to help her. I bought Vetericyn Plus antimicrobial opthalmic gel from Amazon today, but I still don't know if that's even a good thing to use or not. Her eye is worse today :(

Is her eye draining or having crust around the eye? Respiratory diseases can cause conjunctivitis or sinus infection. The Vetericyn eye gel is a good thing to use, or Terramycin eye ointment twice a day. If you see gunk, crust, or pus in the eye, rinse with saline before applying the Vetericyn. If there is any sneezing, wheezing, gasping, or noisy breathing, then I would suspect mycoplasma (MG,) or other respiratory infection. Tylan 50 injectable from many feed stores 0.2 ml per pound can be given orally or by injection twice daily for 5 days to treat symptoms. A vet or local county extension agent may be able to test for common diseases.
