Song bird feed

i have leftover bird seed from the winter, can i feed it to my full grown chickens.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

There shouldn't be any problem feeding out your old song bird feed... as long as it isn't rancid AND you do so as a TREAT at not more than 10% of the total daily chicken ration.

That way, even though the nutrient values might not be exactly right for chickens it won't mess up their standard intake of fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

If the songbird feed has whole seeds in it... I MIGHT even try sprouting it. But IF fed as a treat... I don't see any issue at all.

I have given my flock a scoop of regular bird seed many times with no ill effects. As @EggSighted4Life stated, make sure it's not rancid or moldy and don't overfeed with it.
