The country music stations around here (Chitown)only play Blake Shelton and other TOP CURRENT tunes. Long gone the times when $$$$$$$$$ is not the ALMIGHTY to the music business around here.
It has been long since I heard Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, or any of the other GREAT singers of the past.
I'm sure that around the country, there are small independent radio stations that play what the people want to hear. In the BIG POWERHOUSE MARKETS.. the $$$ music promoters$$$ insist you listen to what THEY WANT YOU TO LISTEN TO.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the way I see it now. :idunno
No, you are correct. Money says it all. Seems no way to fight it

That's pathetic our radio station plays the old country, then we have a radio station that plays the new stuff. There's different types of music to listen to out here

That is one reason I have an extensive music collection. Also note that my music is from all corners of the world, as can be seen from my postings. Most of my CD's are preowned from Ebay, or elsewhere.(flea market, garage sales ,etc. ) Music store would send me to the poorhouse. :gig
Just LUV Youtube. I will play a collection of videos, all different on autoplay. I don't sit in front and view, BTW, just have music play as I go about what I'm doing. Way better than radio, since no annoying advertisements, just SWEET MUSIC to fill the ambience.. :thumbsup

Just LUV Youtube.
I don't have the time, or the data allowance (I have limited data), to watch all of the videos posted on here, but do watch a lot. The only downside to youtube is that the speakers on my internet computer are awful. Even if I had unlimited data, I wouldn't want to be listening for long.
Have you checked out radio stations on the internet, cavemanrich? A lot stream their broadcasts on their websites, so you can listen to the radio from anywhere. I had an internet "pen pal" in America who was a big fan of a local community radio station here. I can't remember how she came across it, she found it online somehow. She told me about it (crazy, right, someone overseas telling a local about something local)

They play a lot of "golden oldies" and more obscure recordings. The presenters are volunteers and a lot are like you, they have extensive record collections and they bring in their own records and play things from them.
I bet there'd be many good country stations in the US and that at least some would be streaming online.
I also buy cds from the op shops. They are pretty much dead technology, they'll be gone soon enough and all music will be digital download.

EDIT: oh, looks like you need some "app" now to listen online, it used to just stream from the website. or maybe not. could just be my computer that it doesn't work.

CD's are a waning technology , but they are still available. There will still be a lot of old stock as well as peeps selling their used collections for a long time. I don't walk around with an Iphone wired to my scalp. I have CD music players in my workshop. On my computer, I install all my CD music so it is in my Music Library. This way it does not get scratched up. If my computer dies, I can reinstall my music into new one. May take a while, but no problem. I have a Boston Brand
Home Theater Speaker System.
It is an older version, but when I connect it to my stereo, or computer it is able to knock your socks off.
Before everyone thinks CD, are going to be obsolete (nothing is forever)
there will be a replacement portable version like flash drive or such.:idunno
Digital downloads have been available for some time now. I'm not sure they will TOTALLY replace all other mediums. Besides, that is in distant enough future for me not to worry about. :thumbsup
BTW not everyone is aware that the record companies still press out
33 1/3 Vinyl LP's in limited quantities.

I'm glad cds are "old technology", that's why I can get them for 50c from the op shop or pawn brokers. :D
I laugh when I see the records at the shops and their price (have you seen what the new releases go for now?). Many ditched all their records in favour of cds when cds came out and now the hipsters say "vinyl is better!". I've still got all of my records.

What we used to rent from from Blockbuster, now is available at Library for FREE. Netflix is very cheap for those that like to watch many movies. You can choose when and what. Quite convenient. We don't subscribe to it, but my of-springs all do. I watch limited amount of TV and most of what I am interested is on antenna network PBS channel. I do watch the NEWS, but usually ONLY THE WEATHER REPORT PORTION. The rest portion I just prefer to take my dogs out for their last hurrah :gig
Talking about NEWS, I just LUV this tune,,,,,,,,, I do get to hear it every now and again on an oldies rock station.
