Sonoran and Silkie genetics gurus

If you want to play around I would deffinatley keep them but if you only have room for a few and you want show birds I'd cull him. It's really all up to.

bacres just so you know I've been doing this Silkie thing for a while now. As far as space, I don't think I know anyone that ever has enough space when it comes to chickens even when they have an entire barn to use. So whatever is going on here, I'll wait for Suze or one of them to chime in that might have a clue. Like I said, she and I have talked back & forth about this for a couple of years.

The issue that makes this strange is that it never shows in the females, never. It is sex linked, which is not supposed to be possible with silkies. And at some point this should stop happening by dilution with more whites but instead it is intensifying. What ever it is the males are carrying to copies, that is why the thought in the early going was that it was a double silver gene. But unless one of the genetics specialists chime in and say its the silver gene then I seriously doubt that's what it is.

Hey Robin~

When they hatched where they white? I have a male that has the silver gene and the offspring were a grayish color as a chick. I mainly see the silver gene in the base of the tail, but I don't see it any where else.

He is very pretty. Have you showed him?

No, they are gray. That's how I know they're boys, they are always gray. I'll dig up a pic tomorrow of what they look like as chicks.

I don't show. Travel is not possible but it would be one way to find out what might be going on.

I had a silkie roo like this. He also came from two white silkies.
He has the wrong comb to be a silkie, though, but here he is. I've always wondered what color he was... He was so pretty.
Someone told me blue partridge?

I agree is some light there is a mauve-ish color and sometimes he'll look blue-ish.

That's it, Critter, except for the comb. Yours looks like it tried to be a Walnut and single comb at the same time. The combs on these boys are a lot bumpier than I like.

You should have had two males with that color. The one in the middle and the one on the right. Although it could have mostly molted out to where there was just a hint in the tail.

A reply I got from George M was that it is smokey. He hates the computer so it was a one word reply. Now I guess I need to pick up the phone and call him.

Mauve? I see no mauve anywhere.

Gray, lavender or porcelain perhaps.

And I think those roos are gorgeous.

And if you're in luck he will share a wealth of breeding knowledge.

Critter, in those photos, your bird looks to have a lot of overall pattern on the individual feathers. Is that corrrect? Robin, yours look to NOT have pattern, but to be a solid pale grey, is THAT correct? Critter, I see some yellowish in the down of your chick that I do not see on Robins.' I'm not sure these are the same phenotypes.
