My understanding is that it's not the end of time in the Mayan calendar, but rather the end of this period. The cycles are like 8000 years long, and the new cycle is supposed to be the period of peace.

Sounds good to me!!!

Further, the reversal of our magnetic poles is supposed to occur next somewhere around Dec. 2012...how about that??

I think it's a whole lotta hooey. Remember Y2K?

I was the one who had 100 gallons of water, 22 tubes of toothpaste, a pantry to the ceiling of canned goods (lots of tuna) with 16 can openers stored for Y2K!

While my DH was in Dallas watching a football game live on New Year's day. I declined to go cause I was sitting at home waiting for the lights to go out.

Yes. Something is suppose to align with something. Im reading up on it now actually. NASA is denying anything like this from what I can tell but others are not.

I myself do not think it is the end of earth but a time for a new beginning. Like you said...peace.

I kinda hope all this technology burns away (as much as I love the internet). I think alot of humans rely on it and put too much into it.

Personally, I could care less. Geologic time is laughing at my brief blink of existence.

If you are REALLY a true believer, shouldn't you welcome this "end of time"? Won't you be where you want to be?

The thing that scares me the most is that I'm legally blind without correction- can't find my own hand to count the fingers...

...and hubby is diabetic. I'm definitely in favor of stocking up on meds so there's a quantity to get through an emergency, but I'm certain he'd not last long without. That would be the nightmare.

I'm all for societal collapse, given I have meds for him and a couple of pairs of glasses. I have seeds, water, all the gear I need- but nothing but bikes to get us out to the property outside of town my grandma owns...because I wouldn't want to be around here when folks started fighting for what we have!!

I'm thinking I'll have trouble hiding a horse in my backyard, though...

If the sun has this destructive cycle every 11 years and the next is set to be a problem in 2012, why haven't we been worried about this every 11 years since? I don't remember having catastrophic problems with the sun in 2001 or 1990...just sayin'...

Y2K was stupid. Just cause people didnt know if computers would turn over to year 2000...
Or whatever...

BUT YOU MUST REMEMBER this has happend before. So to say 'its a whole lotta hooey' isnt exactly....

In 1859 it burned up the only technology we had, the telegraph, causing wide spread fires. We have SO much more now.

Yes, its true that it did not happen in 1990 or in 2001 but whos to say it wont in 2012? 2023? Just because it hasnt happend in *our* lifetime doesnt mean its not going to.

Is anybody going to see the 2012 movie that comes out this November?
