We DID have lots of problems in 2001, and 2003. I worked for an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Dept. in a huge university, and we were plagued with outages at a higher level than most people would notice...cell phone issues occurred frequently, too- IT folks understood that there were sunspots causing issues and lots of redundancy was built into systems to try to limit the impact on the end user.

We watched NASA for sunspot forecasts, though- I still have the updates sent to my Blackberry!

I think being prepared should be a daily thing anyways....2012 or not. Who knows when a storm will take your power out for days or even weeks. Maybe a lay-off happens or an illness and you cant afford groceries.

If you can head to the pantry and pull out dinner from what you have stocked up, you are one step ahead of the rest. There are folks out there who keep 6 months worth of food stuffs, water etc in their storage just in case. Surely cant hurt to be prepared.

And of course....most of us can just eat chicken! No offense to any of our feathered friends!

Y2K was stupid. Just cause people didnt know if computers would turn over to year 2000...
Or whatever...

BUT YOU MUST REMEMBER this has happend before. So to say 'its a whole lotta hooey' isnt exactly....

In 1859 it burned up the only technology we had, the telegraph, causing wide spread fires. We have SO much more now.

Yes, its true that it did not happen in 1990 or in 2001 but whos to say it wont in 2012? 2023? Just because it hasnt happend in *our* lifetime doesnt mean its not going to.

And no one knows if they will get hit by a bus in 3 hours either. Or maybe 2? Or I could choke on my kung pao chicken day after tomorrow. See what I mean?

I agree with this- I try to have 6 mos stuffs for just-in-case and cycle through it, but I know it may not make a whit of difference. I think it's not right to be unprepared, despite the lack of knowing when and how- I think it's the responsible thing to do to be prepared.

Ohh Ima see it!
I just love other people views on 'The end of the mankind'

I love how the ocean cascades over the mountains in the last one!!

But like I said...
I do not think its the end for us but a new beginning

Saying the link is "not age-appropriate" is like a blinking neon sign for all the kids on BYC to "Click here!".

Our well is a spring. In fact, the springhouse is where DH's mother used to store milk cans till they took them to the local creamery when he was little. So refridgeration is not a problem. nor is a source of water. we have 2 gardens and a self-supporting herd of angus along with our chickens and ducks. Fuel for getting to work would become an issue since we live 45 mi from work. but with no power I dont know what would become of our jobs anyway. we just trust God to take care of us and do our best to prepare for what we can.

I try to be prepared and stocked to a reasonable level. I want to do better. There are a thousand things that could happen some predicted others not. The thing that worries me the most is the refrigeration - man I would hate to do with out that!
