Hello all!!

My mother and I have recently decided to embark on a chicken journey!! We live in a "transition" area of a city, where it transitions from suburban to rural. We have a few small dogs, and have started a good sized vegetable garden, and have decided to get into chickens!!!

We're still doing lots of research, but we hope to get our chicks in the next few months!! We plan on getting Polish chickens, as we mainly want pets who lay eggs from time to time....plus they are beautiful birds!!

We hope to attend a poultry show this weekend (we show our dogs, so we know it can be one of the best places to go to learn!) and are super excited for our chicken adventures!!

Hi and welcome to BYC! I have 2 dogs but their mutts! I just got chicks and they are growing sooo fast! I still can't believe that their going to be 3 weeks tomorrow!
Hope you enjoy the forum! Another good choice of chickens are Silkies! If you haven't looked in to them you should! Polish are very pretty.

Welcome to BYC!

Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on getting started, raising the chicks, building the coop and keeping your adult flock happy and healthy...

another dog person. You wouldn't believe how many people on BYC raise, show, train, hunt or have search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs etc. I used to breed and show Cockers in the late 60's to 80's. What breed do you have?

Thanks everyone!!

We have Havanese, we do Conformation and Agility with them :)

I think all my dog breeding experience will come in handy with raising the chicks.....I already have a lot of the supplies (heat lamp, etc)

I'll head to the learning center now!!
