Curious, I noticed there are several SOP books on Amazon for $400-500+!!!! And of course, you can buy them straight from the APA for around $60. Why such a huge price difference???? I’ve already bought one but this was shown to me by someone who I recommended getting an SOP if they wanted to start breeding chickens.

@Wyorp Rock Here is what she sent me. I’ll see If I can find the actual link...

I wouldn't get too excited about this. Almost every out-of-print textbook has gone through the same fate. Someone gets a hold of one of these books and they offer it for sale at some outrageous price. They rarely sell, but once in a while a seller will find someone who is desperate for a reference and has more money than patience, so it sells. If you are willing to look through the internet, or wait a few months, you will find the same book at a reasonable price somewhere else. Many people don't realize that the book is for sale directly from APA for $60, so a few of them will buy the $400-600 model because buyers don't realize there are other options.

LOL That's why I was asking - when I tried to look it up, I was not finding any books for those prices except for a very old poultry book from 1905. Granted, my search skilz aren't what they should be either:lol:

The way you get to the spot you were sent is to go to Amazon (on a desktop, it may be different on a mobile device), select books in the drop down menu, then search for "Standard of Perfection Poultry" and you will get a list of books. Scroll through the list until you find the hardcover book that I linked you to above. It's listed as American Standard of Perfection 2010. It doesn't give a price yet, it just says hardcover. Click on that. That's where it says that it's $502.89. Immediately underneath the price is a spot that says "9 used from $498.93." Click there. That brings up a page that lists all 9 of the same books, from $498 to $682. They're mostly sold by used book stores. They determine a price by looking up the book. When one comes up this expensive, all the different suppliers just pile on and hope for a great sale. The more books listed at this price the more perceived value the book has to potential buyers, and eventually someone buys one, although very few people are that gullible. Here's a direct link to the page: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/offer-l...?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=1593624621&sr=1-5
